Looking to replace the exhaust on my 2004.5. Have the MBRP 4" muffler on the otherwise stock system right now. Was thinking of going with the MBRP 5" turbo back system. Anybody have any experience with this system? Drone while towing? Etc. Thanks!

I think I'm going with the Diamond Eye from farmboysdiesel... I have 2 issues that are important to me... LOWER EGT's and something that's not more than 10% louder than my stock system... I tow 85-90% of the time... and need the lower EGT's here in the pacific northwest...

Jim thanks for the reply. I like the diamond eye from farm boy also. Have heard good things about their products and am looking for the same two key points as you are. Don't want to pull the 5ver with anything loud all day long. MBRP stood up well but factory pipes fell apart. Thanks again.

I have the MBRP turbo back with the CAT deleted. I like the sound/tone. It can get a little drone when pulling hard. Been a great system overall.

I have the 4" turbo back MBRP. I do experience the drone when it shifts into overdrive for a bit, maybe 45 - 50 MPH. It goes away once the RPM's come up. It's not horrible, but there. Worth it to me as I really like the sound of the system outside of that small range.

Impressed with the fit and finish of the kit. Installed myself, bolted right up, all the hangers fit the factory locations, no issues with installation, would recommend.

I bought a 5" Diamond Eye brand new locally for half price. It is the standard aluminized pipe and has held up well to the salt and humidity. No rust other than at the hanger mounts. I think that says something because I have seen cheap AutoZone special exhaust systems rot straight through in 2 to 3 winters and need replaced again.

On 4" vs 5" my plan originally was to go 4" until I came across the deal on 5". My opinion is still the same I would prefer 4" due to the noise and the 5" is a tight fit in a few locations under the truck especially at the rear because I carry a 285/75/17 for a spare. There is no advantage to running the 5" unless you like the deeper sound, I have a big Shuttleworth truck muffler underneath and it really knocked the drone down but it is still there under heavy engine load. When it needs replaced again I will go with a 4" system.

I have the AFE 5". Barely fits with an over size spare tire and the hardware is better the MBPR. But I really like Diamond Eye's hardware.

Hi, I am using the MBRP 5" TBE on my 08 Mega Cab. There is some drone when pulling my 5er if I am above 2,000 RPM's. With the 68RFE in 6th gear I am normally turning 1600 RPM's around 65 MPH and there is no drone; but if I have to pull up a hill with the camper and drop in to 5 th gear and run at 2000 RPM's there will be a drone than. Something to consider with you 2004.5 truck since the engine operates at a higher RPM in 4th gear.

My 5” system did fit in the truck I just had to move over the spare tire to make additional clearance between the tire and muffler exhaust pipe. On my version of the 5” MBRP system the exhaust used all of the factory hangers and hardware when mounting on my truck.

Have full MBRP 4" on my 04 and the best thing I ever did was put a turn down tip on it. Made the tone very much more acceptable pulling hard.

I was under the impression that going to a 5" without any engine turbo mods was basically worthless? Any input? I'm trying to decide weather or not replacing my stock 4" is really worth the money, or to just replace the stock cat or "empty" the cat as I have to pass a visual emissions test here.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Stan's headers and the HD truck muffler adaptations some have done in the past. I have the aluminized 4" dynomax. Decent and cheap and had a rebate. Slight drone.

I just got done doing a 4" Diamond Eye turbo back exhaust. I love the sound, having the 4" I don't think I would go with 5" because the 4 is just border line for drone. But then again it all depends how a guy uses his truck. Just like on a long trip that drone would be annoying.

I am not sure you will see much of an EGT change on a stock truck. The OEM 4" flows more than needed, and the main restriction for EGT's is the stock turbine housing.

Correct, really the OEM exhaust is plenty for up to 550-600rwhp unless it's a drag truck (which will have more power anyhow). While a 5" might do better at high rpms how much time do we spend above 2500.

I just ordered the 4" stainless Diamond Eye system for my 03 Cummins truck from Summit Racing. $323.97 for the exhaust system. $37.97 for a 304 stainless 4x5x12 polished tip. Free shipping.
