Exhaust system installation

Back in 2005 when I had my 2002 2500 QC SB, I bought an MBRP turbo-back exhaust kit w/muffler and started installing it. I ran into a snag, drove up to my local muffler shop, and they finished it for me.

Fast forward 15 years, now I have a 1996 CC LB with a stock exhaust and I'm thinking about another kit. Two things:

1. Is there any consensus between the MBRP stainless kit and the FLO PRO stainless kit? I tried searching the forums and either wasn't doing it right or didn't come up with much. I'm at stock power and am just looking to get rid of the rusting factory exhaust.

2. Will shops be willing to install these systems in 2020? I'm not getting any younger and I will probably hire it out, but with increasing regulations, will a shop not want to install an aftermarket system?

I'm in central Indiana, in case any of you are in the same area and have a shop suggestion. Thank you!

I'm answering question number two all by myself using the internet - isn't that amazing? Can I use the eye-roll emoji for myself? It looks like I have diesel performance shops close by that not only sell these systems but also install them. Problem solved.

Question number one is still open for discussion - any preference between the MBRP and FLO PRO?

Did a MBRP system on my 01 Sport last Summer. EAZY no issues. Muffler is too short! Would like to have one that flows but without the NOISE under load.

Any suggestions???

I read one guy's comments that he went with the FLO PRO for that reason. It looks like they offer several different muffler options. I contacted a local shop/dealer to ask for recommendations. I'll report back what I hear.

While I cant comment on your year vehicle or either of the two brands you mentioned. I did however put an AFE exhaust system on my 01 back in 2002. At the time I didn't know that AFE even made exhaust systems. It is still on there unrusted and leak free 18 years and 350000 miles later. I do not remember if it was stainless or aluminized steel. My local diesel shop touted it and the price was right at the time, no idea how they are now either in quality or price but if quality is same and price relatively inline I would buy one again in a second. My 01 had a muffler and a resonator the afe did away with the resonator and replaced the muffle with whatever it came with in the kit. I always felt it sounded good outside and no drone in the cab.

I’m an MBRP guy. Sold a bunch of them and still have the same regular steel system on my ‘98 that I installed on my totaled out ‘95 fifteen years ago.

The MBRP muffler will be louder depending on how you install it. It is a straight through design that has V-shaped louvers inside. It is quieter if you put the open end of the louvers toward the engine. Flow will not be affected.

I have the MBRP turbo back stainless system on my truck. It was a little tight on the firewall. I wrapped the pipe from the turbo to just under the cab. I like the sound, but after a full day in the truck, my hearing is definitely reduced!

Interesting! I just ASSUMED the open ends should go to the back for sure flow.

So is the sound reduced say when towing on grade doing as you say?

That’s what I have experienced. I have mine installed with the open ends toward the engine. Good sound but definitely not loud.

I cant speak about the stainless part, but my 02 has a mbrp and my dads 01 has a flo pro. The flo pro is a bit quieter then my mbrp but still sounds nice idling and under load. A big selling point is flo pro uses much nicer clamps then mbrp. And correct me if im wrong but I think flo pros are made here in Alberta.
