I bought the mid level warranty....it has paid for itself as truck has 56000 miles on it. Still got 44000 to go. It's a 14.
Been in shop....
3 times for radio
3 times for a/c
3 times for charging problem
1 time front bumper discoloration
1 time trans...lost all gears from 4th up.. was bad valve body and was missing a bolt in it.
1 time right rear axle seal leak..which turned out to be a seized bearing/race.
Twice for recalls, even though other recalls where performed while in shop for other problems.

I have max care unlimited on my ‘14 Durango. I’m getting ready to use it for the first time, as it’s developed a coolant leak, and a nother leak I think is the steering gear. The sunroof stopped working properly as well. I will pursue a loaner.
One thing to note here-
I went on the owner’s section of Mopar.com, just to look around, and I was unable to print out the provisions of the warranty. I also saw that there is a vehicle maintenance area on the site as well. This did show all the visits the Durango has had so far, but no preventative maintenance at all (I do all my own). So I ran and got my folder and entered it all in, aling with the oil and filter type used. I put my own name down as the provider, and “my driveway” as the location.
I logged back in the next day, ready to call about why I can’t see my warranty provision, and BOOM, there it was. I printed it.
The only thing I can figure, is that they were prepared to deny me based on lack of maintenance.

I do not believe in extended warranty. When a dealer starts trying to sell it, I simply say,"are you telling me this product that you sell is junk''? I think one is better off saving money in a slush fund for just such an emergency. I also try to buy the simplest vehicles. GPS, I have a phone for that. A lot of automakers charge dearly for updated maps too. I especially love it when cashiers ask if you would like extended warranties on electrical/electronics at box stores. Always No. Take my chances.
As far as maintenance records, doesn't matter if on the website as long as you have a paper trail on vehicle, somewhere. Years ago, started the habit of an index card(yellow to be exact) that I write all the info on when maintenance/repairs are performed. Putting on website is good too, but can be done after the fact as Wayne said.

They would lose money on extended warranties if they don't sell a quality product with reasonably good quality control?????

Or the cost of the warranties would be exorbitant.

"Extended warranties" are just an insurance policy. Money is used much the same way. Money is invested and grows, paid out(as needed) on covered claims. Bottom line is, it is just another revenue stream for the benefit of the seller of the policy. My tongue in cheek response is used to shut up the salesman and get the paperwork done. When I buy a vehicle, I have done extensive research and have made up my mind as to what I do and don't want, when I walk in. Some people believe in insurance for everything, I don't. My wife deals with insurance contracts on a daily basis. It's all about actuarial science. I do recall when I bought my wife a new car in 06, when finalizing deal, they had finance guy try to sell me the warranty, I told him he better send in the sales guy again, because we had more negotiating to do. He looked at me dumbfounded. I told him if you are selling me a car that needs an extended warranty, maybe I ought to get a better price. That warranty went in the garbage. Car was trouble free right up until it got in a fight with a deer in the headlights. 140K and well out of any extended warranty.
