Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Ez, Comp, or older Van aaken box

I'm thinking about change. Right now I have a Ez edge box. I had an older Van aaken box wich I loved and sold (stupid) I bought the Ez thinking it would get me better mileage do to the timing advanced. (Also want the boost fooler also) So far if i seen a mile to the gallon better If would be lucky. The truck also drives doggy with ez over the va. I was thinking about two things. Buy a older used VA box or a new Comp. If i used the old va box, could i still use the ez as a boost fooler without the Can bus cable hooked up? If I bought the comp, would it run with the low end of the Van aaken?
