Thank you.
Is there anything to look for or is it pretty clear if it is bad ? I assume this is a pull the dash off situation or can it be accessed from below ?
IIRC the resistor is mounted next to the blower motor under the passenger side dash. No need to remove any part of dash. Just look for wires next to motor. If you take out the three vertical bolts holding the motor on, you can see the resistor in the blower wheel stream. Probably a good idea to clean the leaves out while you have the blower motor off. It's easy to do.
I am on my second heater fan resistor and have replaced the fan motor recently as I deteermined that the fan motor bearings were really stiff and causing the heater motor current in the low speed mode was higher than normal, causing the current being drawn thru the resistor to cause it to fail prematurly. My truck now has a NAPA (china-chintzy) replacement motor, which seems to work only OK. Truck has 206k on it and seems to being running and working fine!
You don't have to remove the fan motor to remove the resistor although it does extend into the airstream. Mine had some corroded terminals and I didn't notic, just replaced, new one quit not long after. Went back and cleaned the terminals and all is well. Got mine about two years ago and it was in the fiftish dollar range. bg
