Step-son's lift pump went out, and I'm wondering should he replace it with a parts store replacement or invest in a FASS or AirDog system. Looking for some opinions guys... .

Cost worth it?

Performance gain?

Just posted on Comp D to a similar question. Our stock lift pumps are good for a lot of power and dependable. I would use nothing but Cummins for the stock replacement. Owner preference I guess.

If the truck is a 12V, then it has a mechanical pump which are known to be quite reliable and they will support a lot of fueling. I would certainly stick with the stock one.

If your staying with the mechanical type then buy it from Cummins as someone has already said.

If your looking to step up to an electrical aftermarket system with filters then I would recommend the AirDog... ... . Andy

I just went through this with my '98. I went through 4 lift pumps (from Cummins) in 3 years and I had enough. I put a FASS 150/90-1010 on my truck and haven't been happier. I ditched the factory FF which was a pain in the butt and all the factory lines. I even put the suction tube kit in the tank and bypassed the little straw the factory uses to pull fuel through. I have a constant 45psi of fuel pressure and the truck starts easier and runs smoother.

Turns out it was the shut-off, screws backed out of one side of the afc and let it lift off not engaging. His first guess was wrong and found the problem yesterday when we went looking around. But, sending unit apparently went out at the same time, seems odd????
