Garden of the gods campground has been up-graded and has a new section with big-rig sites. 50 amp service with w&s. Someone that lives out there made the arrangements and has camped there. They also have bldgs. for rally meetings and other activeties. From there we are going to the Gunnison area and up around Taylor river reservor.

It sure is good to see diesel come down. It will make our trip out to Colorado a lot easer on the pocket book. . Right now we are in the North Georgia Mountains and diesel is $2. 82. With the oil spill you would think it would be sky high. Well I guess we will never be able to figure them out.

It's kinda like wait a minute - - cause it will go back up - - - and it did - - crude $73. ++/bbl - - up $5. 00 last 24 hours - - - why - - - nobama announced new rules about drilling off shore, and no drilling in Alaska - - - no Congressional vote - - - just nobama deciding

Bought diesel in Donaldsonville, Ga. for $270. 9 3 days ago. Filled every tank I had... ... ... ... ... Oo.

Just bought fuel in So. Jersey at Valero for $2. 599 - - - Watch fuel prices skyrocket now - - - Our illustrious dictator has just run his mouth about what 'HE' the "chosen one' is gonna' do to cut off domestic oil production.

I can't find anyone that will admit voting for Obama and now he is a dictator. We have one oil rig accident and he talks like it is a common occurance and shuts down everything and puts no telling how many people out of work.

Hmmm! Dictator? If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, etc. etc. Must be - - - yup a DICTATOR just like Fidel and Hugo - - - won't be another election - - - he'll declare himself President for Life!!

I really never intended for this thread to descend into politics.

We moved to Florida 2 years ago. I have never, in all my 62 years, seen America and Americans so angry.

Something is dreadfully wrong, and I fear we have only ourselves to blame... ...

I'll try and steer this topic back on track.

Has anyone camped at Colorado State Parks? My wife and I are planing to head north, from New Mexico, and are interested in staying at a few of the Colorado parks. Do you like them? Are they well maintained and looked after? Any tips or other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you,

GCP

We stayed at a Colorado state park off of hwy 50 just west of Pueblo, Lake Pueblo I believe and it was nice. I don't remember any trees but it was a nice stoping place for a couple of nights.

Thanks for pulling us back on the road... ... ... ...

Where are you exiting NM and entering Co. ?

We will be traveling out of New Mexico on HWY 550 and from their we are pretty open to going "wherever the wind blows us. "

Nice to here. I'm glad you found the state park enjoyable. Hopefully they wont be to crowded during the week days.

Last year we stayed at the KOA near Gould Co (NW of Denver). It's on the edge of Colorado State Forest State Park. We didn't stay at the State Park because we like full hookups, but we did go drive thru the campground. It was very nice, but I think the dump station wasn't working. There's electric at each site, water in a central location. The biggest problem with area was that the pine bark beetle has killed a bunch of the trees and they are logging them to prevent them from falling on campers. They had already done the KOA, we had heard that the State Park campground would be done as well.

We also stayed one night in Colorado River state park, Fruita section (just west of Grand Junction). It was also nice, full hookups, clean restrooms, etc. Note: the Island Acres section campground is located in a beautiful canyon just East of Grand Junction; unfortunately it shares the canyon with I70. Very convenient, but very noisy.

Further East, we've stayed at Rifle Falls State Park. It's very small; the main attraction is the falls. The park fills up with day users during the weekend. Oh yes, we also stayed at Ridgway State Park. We stayed in the Pa-Co-Chu-Puk section, again because it has full hookups. It's very out in the open, few trees, and it was hot there. But it was clean.

Overall our experience has been positive with Colorado state parks. I recommend that you plan ahead, make reservations, ask about specific parks to get specific answers. Enjoy your trip!

GCP,

Just noticed that you have an Arctic Fox, 25-S. I have on older '98 Nash 25-S & love it. I've had it from around the Toronto, ON. CAN. area to the San Diego, CA. area & in every Western State. I live in Phoenix, AZ. It's been a great, comfortable trailer & I would buy one again, in a heartbeat!!!

How has your's been? Hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine.

This has been a great thread. Love to read about the travels you folks have taken. I usually just stay in WalMart's, forests or where ever I can find a spot. Normally, I don't stay in one spot for long. Just overnight, & WalMart works well for that. I like being on the road going somewhere. The few times I have stayed in campgrounds have been a lot of fun, though. I enjoy talking with folks with RV's & diesel pick-ups. Always have something to talk about.

We stayed a week at Colorado river State Park, Fruita, and liked the area. I like full hook-ups but water & Elec. will work for us if the rest rooms are nice. We don't like to move every day. I guess that is why it takes us so long to get out west from Florida. It takes at least a month. We enjoy the trip.

Bill

We are in Southfork, Co. and every campground is nothing but dirt. I guess we are used to grass and can't get used to seeing my truck so dusty.

Not far from Pueblo, Colorado is Trinidad Lake. It's a Corp of Engineers design and built dam with a great recreational facility. I feel proud of the dam and facilities because as a Corps of Engineers employee, now retired, I had a hand in the design of the project. It's one of the best Albuquerque District COE project and a great place for camping. We make it a point to camp there when going through Trinidad, CO, which is on I 25.
