Anybody running a Scangauge

New engine

Had one on my 2001 for 10 years. . when I got my 2009, got another one. . not one problem with it. . always easy to change the oil and everything. . The spring loaded lever has never failed, not snow or ice or anything has made it open. . everybody should have this. . makes it very easy to change your oil.

I've used one for two vehicles now without anyone vandalizing the plug. They make it real easy to control the outflow as compared to the all or nothing stock plug. Midstream oil samples as Blackstone recommends are a cinch now.

I do use a small hose clamp.

Hose clamp as a preventer? Great idea.

I've had Fumoto (Geno's) valve on mine since 06. No more oil splashing into a bucket, it really flies out of there, straight into your recycle jugs. On 4X4 most 1 gallon or 5 qt jugs fit under the valve with about 1" clearance. You can drain the oil when it's hot and it flows better. 4X4 is better because the pan drain sits well above and behind the front axle. I originally ordered the valve with the hose nipple but that extends down farther and it looks like snag point. I cut off the nipple with a hacksaw. You don't need it. One of the TDR technical writers, maybe Joe Donnelly, alluded to a problem with the 3rd generation drain plug threads. Repeated plug removal and retorquing distorts the threads and the plug becomes less secure. Put the drain valve on once and that issue is resolved. Another benefit, if you somehow overfill you can drain off a bit to optimum level. I don't recall what I did but one TDR member recommended a copper gasket versus the fibre gasket the valve comes with.

Two things. For my fellow Vets, I applaud, congratulate, and thank you for your service. I am USAF Retired (20 years, 3 months, 9 days of service). Worst decision: Retiring from a service and job I loved. I listened to the Ex, bad ju-ju, now water under the bridge. To my Navy bretheren who are suffering, my thoughts and prayers will be with you. That's a promise.

As for the drain plug. I have had a Fumoto on my 2003 for about 6 years and love it. Never thought of the clamp idea but it would be a great piece of mind addition. I bought the Fumoto from Geno's and it is the one with the nipple. I then bought a (forgot the length) piece of clear tubing that I slide over the nipple prior to opening the drain. I love the whole "no mess" thing! As a side job, I work on vehicles and about 10 days ago, I had a brand new Duramax in for an oil change. Instead of the oil coming out as a stream, it came out as a "fan" and went everywhere including on me. I was not happy. The plug on the D-Max is no longer in the middle of the rear of the pan, it is now in the left (drivers side) rear corner of the pan.
