worth

Less and less as time goes by. Cummins has made a gazzillion of these engines and they don't bring what they once did. On the other hand, 125k miles is just broken in good if it was serviced correctly. You can bring a complete run out engine back to new operating condition for about 4 grand. A new from cummins engine is close to 7. I just bought a beater that runs like a champ for under 2 grand. I would expect the engine to run another 200k and I got the whole truck with it. And it came with PODs.

So bargain hard. Remember that what it is worth may be more to someone else than to you.

Be sure there is no crash damage before you plunk down your money. It may not be worth anything.

Is that a big enough spread?

If I was selling one I'd say it was worth maybe $3500.

If I was buying one I'd say $1000.

But I see a lot of them for sale in the $2000/$2500 range

Help any?

As someone who recently did a lot of shopping for an engine, I can tell you that I found lots of 1st gen engines with 100K to 150K for less than $2000. If you are in Texas, you should have plenty to choose from. I was conversing with a guy in Bacliff Texas that had one with 93K for $1600, and I was going to buy it until I found a second gen locally, but it cost more money of course. If your interested I can see if he still has it and let you know. It was complete. You can also check with Chrysler Heaven near DFW.
