First oil change on my new to me 2005

Haa.......... fresh delo and new fleetguard 16035

I pulled the filter off from the bottom, ( unlike my '99 its easyer to pull it out upward under the hood) ,,,was pretty easy and quick (just had to unplug the AC compressor plug to free the access for the filter to come straight down

My 2005 4x4 owners manual says 12 qt

- Info tid-bit: I looked at my '99 owners manual and it says 10 qts for my '99 2500 4x4 quad, longbed (thats what its been taking for 20 year). And it says do not over fill above the full line on the stick

So I decided to measure both my '99 and '05 oil pans. My '99 oil pan is actually alittle shorter than my 05

My 05 did take 14 quarts.

That's about where I'm at with the remote filter and bypass setup. I know it's not a needed thing on newer trucks with the improved oil. But had the setup prior to the truck and decided to put it on. Like the extra oil capacity that it provides!

Technically a bypass filter is not needed on any engine. Like my dentist used to say, "you don't need to floss all your teeth; just the ones you want to keep." I would say a bypass filter is even more beneficial on newer trucks, particularly those with EGR and more particularly those you want to keep. The newer oil doesn't make the soot particles less abrasive!

It doesn't make them less abrasive, but it does keep them from agglomerating. Current oils make soot nearly impossible to filter out, even with a 2µ filter. That's the main reason I quit running one, the soot is still in the oil.
