I had originally heard that disconnecting the EGR was one of the best things you could do for a diesel, but then I heard the 6. 7 was different and it would mess it up. It seems strange that something that is there solely to reduce emissions would result in increased emissions.

Its all about the result at the end of the tail pipe. If you see the amount of caked soot on the inside of the pipes upstream of the DPF you would cry. :{ My smokey old 12V doesn't even make that kind of mess in the pipes. It crumbled out when I dropped the pipe and now it has just a haze on the inside of the pipe without all the emissions controls active. The EPA has a funny way of playing to whatever they think is best for the oil companies... . errr. . the environment...

CraigSmith... ..... I am in a similar situation. I only drive 5 miles to work one way each day and trailer about once a month. So far I have over 7000 miles and have never seen the DPF full message. I (religiously) drive the truck with the following "settings":

> Engine Brake always on

> Minimize idle time

> Use the Block Heater on a timer in winter

> I made a poor-man's winter front

> I always drive with RPMs between 1500-2000 by manually shifting the auto transmission selector to the correct gear to force the higher revs.

Of course your results may vary but so far so good.

Also - since your truck was built after March 2009, you may not be able to use the Edge Insight since newer trucks have a Secured Bootloader ECM. This detects tuners and locks out the truck totally... you'll have to tow it to the dealer to be reflashed. I think Mikey is using a Quadzilla Scout without problems.

Thanks.

Yeah, I read some about the Insight last night here; I would have thought they had it working by now but I talked to them and they haven't. Something is odd, since it's supposed to just be a monitor. Oh well. It would be nice to have something that can force a regen anyway; I'll have to research more on here to see what can.

I thought that the latest flashes would allow it to do the regen while idleing and around town driving? I'm sure that I read this here somewhere as Dodge realized this problem and corrected it with the software. The e-brake wiring so that the brake is always on is awsome. I like it for the fact that when you use the command start to start the truck it will be on and help with the warm up. One thing that I noticed after deleting everything is that the coolant doesn't warm up as fast because it isn't being used to cool the exhaust as you start to drive.
