Finally made it around to Cummins

I would have gotten 4.10's in my 18 if they were available, but the 3.42's have been doing great so far.

I am curious thou, as I know there are some guys in here with 4.10s and an Aisin.. what speed will it lockup in 2nd gear? It seems that my truck won't lock the converter until 20 mph, regardless. I've even tried in 4LO and no lockup below 20 mph.

We went to Olive Lake, Or this weekend and it's a fairly decent pull the last 8 miles and my trans temps got to 175° at a GCW of 18K. Dad's temps got to 188° at a GCW of 20-21K. Never got fast enough for the converter to lock up.

So I guess if 4.10's don't even allow lockup below 20 mph then there isn't a point to the expensive swap.

Sounds good, but do you really want/need the front bench seat?
The otherwise standard center console is a magic of its own, many many compartments and doors and connectors inside, and the space of a porsches trunk.

We were quite happy when we found a truck with the bench seat!

Dad's '17 has the center console so I've used it quite a bit and we just prefer the bench seat. It feels better and the storage is easier to access, plus it's nice for the wife to be able to slide over on occasion.

The bench also has connectors, maybe it's a 18 vs 17 but there is 1 extra radio connetor on my bench vs dad's console. The only connector I am missing is the rear seat 12V outlet.

My 2018 DRW 3500 with air suspension bottoms on some mild road dips when carrying our 11 foot Bigfoot camper, hard enough to hurt the low back when it does. Wonder if there is a solution in the form of adding leaf (leaves) to springs and/or adjustable shocks that would allow tuning jounce rate, to just prevent the bottoming most of the time. With air, expect ride height is set by computer, so no way to raise the static ride height (except lower [I think], using special towing suspension setting button, which won't help). Any knowledge out there?

Are you in reg or ALT mode?

I towed 29k combined with 68rfe and 3.42's. Towed GREAT. Towed in 5th at 1,750 same as my 15 with 4.10's in 6th. ONLY negative was starting out on a grade with the 68. With AISIN it would have started on grade great.

I tow 33-35k with my 15 DRW with rear air and FULL RAWR of 9,750#. To do it again I would get the 3.42's/AISIN to tow my 33-35k combined.

I run 35psi in my rears solo, always run ALT mode it rides GREAT.

Pics both ALT, hitched has 5,750# pin weight and RAW is 9,750#. Notice the air ride keeps truck same height loaded or not!

I think air ride would ride fine. Ram air ride is actually supplemental air bags, not true air suspension. As mentioned previously, I installed supplemental Firestone air bags on my 03 Ram 2500 4x4 QC, inflated them to the point they started taking weight off the springs, and ride was fine. Like mentioned a bunch is ride quality MORE a matter of tire inflation than suspension.

For my part, Ram SUPPLEMENTAL air suspension is a nice option and allows you to have a level truck when not loaded....the standard spring suspension will be higher in the rear. Is it an essential option? Since I don't actually have it, I'll leave to the folks who have it.

I won't clutter the conversation too much with stories about my previous 4500 and current 5500 with progressive spring pack and overloads, however, if my truck had air suspension stock offered, I WOULD have it.

Finally, there's going to be a point where no one here can say anything else on the subject....you have ALL the facts from the GALLERY. The FINAL determination of whether to get Ram's SUPPLEMENTAL air suspension option will be how you feel driving one butt in the seat.

Cheers, Ron

okay guys a little update the the the the boss the wife has said it's okay to get a dually so I'm looking at billet silver mega cab 4 by 4 dually however as I understand it we can get 410 rear end no matter what with whether it's a niacin or it's a 68rfe in other words because it's a dually I think that's not a problem but on a single rear wheel it is somebody give me a call and let me know somebody who's got a 410 rear in his truck my number is 434-251-5007 Stuart and Danville Virginia thank you guys.

oh by the way we went and did drive and test a 6 passenger Laramie with the leather with my daughter in the middle in the between the right and left seat in the middle seat and she didn't have no problem she's only four foot nine and I think 80 lbs and it worked out pretty well all right guys thanks a lot by so yeah six passengers not a problem especially with a little one she's 15 but she's 4 foot 9 and 80 lb I don't think she's going to be similar to Shaquille O'Neal.

hey guys I forgot to ask the question I think I know the answer but I'll give it to you guys let you guys chimed in it seems that the billet silver would be the easiest color to keep clean black everybody knows is very hard to keep clean dark blue is hard to keep clean white is okay to keep clean but as I recall the silver was the most easy to keep clean am I correct alright guys yes and I spending this direction spending that direction don't worry about it I'm not going to make a mistake I made two mistakes back in the 90s with ram 3500 so I have no intention of making the same mistake again that's why I'm doing all this research and asking questions????????

My 2008 is Silver and it hides the dirt will but they all get dirty and are hard to keep clean. I would need to wash the truck daily to keep it spotless.

This is just me... I consider cleaning, washing, waxing the truck as necessary maintenance. We live down a 1/4 mile caliche road (white powder when dry) so we wash the vehicles about every two weeks and wax every 3 to 6 months, depending on how long it beads up when wet. Our 2003 Bright Silver Ram paint was like new when we sold it last year. My BILs truck gets cleaned when it rains. Types As typically can't tolerate dirty anything. Me!

White, tan, silver, light colors seem to show the dirt the least. About 20 years ago. I invested about $70 in a great wash brush and extension at a truck stop that I still have today. Even I at 5' 10" need to stand on the door openings to reach the roof and step ladder to get the hood.

Just like everything else related to their trucks, there's no exactly correct answer, but there are some that ARE better than others.

Probably a little more info than the OP wanted to know, but that's the risk one takes when asking a question on the TDR.

So, cheers and beers,

Ron

Ok guys the wife says ok for this truck she loves the INDIGO FROST INTERIOR so here it is the ultimate SRW LIMITED LOL.
Yes its SRW and no air ride and no dually.
I WILL MOST LIKELY HAVE TO RUN THE TIRES AT 50 PSI WHEN UNLOADED BUT THAT ONLY takes a few minutes to air back up each tire.

Ok we found a truck at our local dealer and its a pretty good deal the owner of the dealership said it was ok to run 50 psi in the back and 70 psi in the front to see how it rides without a load on the back.
So I will be taking it for a test ride this morning tires aired down to see how it rides, last week I did drive it with 80 psi in all four tires and it was horrible and yes it is an air ride truck.

Here is the truck............https://www.chrysler.com/hostd/windowsticker/getWindowStickerPdf.do?vin=3C63R3SL0KG542653

Ok just got back from a 30 minute test drive and I must WoW is all I can say.

I drove the above SRW 3500 after I put the rear tires down to 49psi and it really helped a bunch, it still rode harsh but not BRUTAL so if I lower them to 42 they should be ok this truck does have AIR RIDE and when I purchase the truck I will put the front tires to 70psi.

Who needs Sulastic Shackles when you can just lower the psi for free guys.

Stuart
