First Tow and the trip home after

I got Pepe out on the road today for about 125 miles to take the 5th wheel to be raised before vacation. (aka axels flipped)

Dang this truck can pull! My trailer is about 13feet tall in the front and 7,000 pounds. Not even a challenge for the truck. Actually set the cruise at 72 for a bit, just to see if could make some hills with the cruise set that high.

No problem!

Big difference from my 96 360 CID 1/2 ton!


Coming back I was stuck behind some goober in a 1/2 ton tricked-out dual exhaust chevy on a 2 lane state highway. He was doing 55 in a 70.

He punched it as the last of 20 or so cars passed him on the oncoming side as I tried to initiate a pass. Needless to say, I got around, dropped back in front of him at about 95.

I'd be happy to guess at what he had under the hood, but I couldn't hear his duals over the turbo whine from my truck.

Wow, if this is stock, I can't wait to see what BOMBed feels like!

Eventually, you will get so used to the power, you will forget just how much you have. Then, one day you will be going up a hill, passing some cars while towing your trailer. That should remind ya!

Just think... with some injectors and a light fueling/boost box you could set the cruise on 73mph!

GOTTA be careful applying throttle when towing with these Cummins - we had a 24 ft fiver, and after I got carried away passing traffic up in the hills, I measured the trailer and it had stretched out to 30 ft... . #ad

Yes, I know Mac. He put in my gauges and talked me into a K & N. (Wasn't hard)

I'll be popping the hood the next time it stops raining to see if I have a K&N that does the black gunk. (Hopefully tomorrow. )

8,500 miles till I go for an EZ.

Mac will be the one to do my 4" exhaust,clutch, and 275 injectors when I have them done. (Shortly after I get over the warranty jitters. )

I'll probably try to talk him into installing DD2s or DD1s. We'll just have to see what kind of toys are out at the time.

boatpuller, I have no idea where lupes escape is.

Gary, If my trailer streached it would save me plenty of money. Wife is looking at a bigger rig.

I just realized I was reading your signature wrong, on the movie Romancing the Stone there is a guy who has a dorf BroncoII that he calls Pepe,my lil' mule. He has a remote control ramp on the side of the river, he calls it Lupes escape, the Mexican army is chasing them and he uses the ramp to jump the river and then raises it straight up and down so the army runs into it and can't cross the river.

The last time I made a long trip hauling, I was driving a friend's 95 GMC with a 6. 5 and a smaller trailer, I was always in 3rd (it was an auto).
