Pulling a 6% grade on I-26: length - 2 to 3 miles ??
Temperature - 91 degrees
Boost - 26 psi (steady)
EGT - 1050
Pulling a 6% (maybe 7) in Tennessee on 19/23 East
length - between 3. 5 and 5 miles
Temperature - 70 degrees
Boost - 25 psi (steady)
EGT - 935
On the I-26 grade I never had to come out of 5th gear as the RPM never dropped below 2000 (came real close, though)
Fuel mileage on a hot day running anywhere from 64-68 mph averaged out to 10. 1 mpg. On the way home, I managed 10. 2 mpg on the first tankful (cooler weather, more hills) and on the last tankful I averaged 9. 9 mpg (hotter weather, not many hills, faster speeds 70-72 mph).
I'm very happy with the mods as they did what I had hoped. There is a wicked twist and turn 9% grade on the 19/23 bypass in North Carolina that I really wanted to have a go at, but my clutch was acting up (see the slave cylinder post) so I ran the grade in 4th and maintained 50 mph without any problems
and with plenty of pedal left. The highest EGT I saw on the whole trip was 1050. The truck ran between 600-650 most of the time.
