If this helps you, my 94 Ram 2500 gasser was an SLT with all of the goodies for that MY. I don't believe the Laramie existed in 94, but I could be wrong.

I've searched & searched, maybe I'm a dunder head but, could anyone help a fellow out. Please! :)

The Laramie option began with the 3rd generation in '03. My previous trucks with all the options including the leather seats that I prefer in '97 and '00 were ordered as SLT+.

Bill

I might be mis-understanding the OP's exact question. Did you mean Laramie badge by itself or in conjunction with SLT as in Laramie SLT? My '01 is a Laramie SLT. Here are some scans of my 94 catalog.

Bill,

I agree about the SLT+ designation for the leather, etc. There was even a finer distinction, the SLT+ "G" or "H" package. The "H" package got you the heated front seats and power adjustment for the passenger's seat; the "G" didn't. The SLT+ order designation was also used on the Durango - my wife's 2000 was an SLT+.

In any case, back to the original question, unless my failing memory fails again, the C pillar badge on my 1996 said Laramie SLT.

Evidently my memory is worse than yours. I don't remember the "Laramie SLT" badge on the C pillar post on either of my 2nd gen trucks and they were ordered with very option including leather. I recall a "Laramie" only badge on the tailgate beginning with the 3rd gen trucks. It looks like I'm going to have to dig through my old literature files...

I'll further confuse the issue.

My 2002 is shown above along with the SLT+ G-package interior. When the Sport option was ordered, the C-pillar badge said Sport; the Sport package badging on the 2002 superceded the Laramie SLT badging that was on my 1996. In Nick's photo above, the red type above the SLT C-pillar (or B-pillar, in the case of a regular cab) badge says "Laramie".

As luck would have it I brought the '97 with me to Houlton today.

It is a Laramie SLT with cloth seating and no power seats at all.

From the answers posted, I guess I should clarify and explain the reason for my question.

When I purchased my 04 it was listed as a "Laramie" and it had every option under the sun, this was verified by the build sheet I received from Dodge. So I was surprised last night when I noticed the tailgate and all it had was, 4X4 with SLT under it, but no Laramie. So from the postings I now know the Laramie package goes back a lot farther, than I realized.

I guess what I'm trying to figure out is what year the Laramie became a separate badge and stand alone option package?

Sorry for the long post and thanks to all who posted.

Maybe the previous owner forgot to lower the original tailgate when hitching/unhitchig a 5th wheel or a gooseneck trailer and replaced the damaged tailgate with one from a SLT truck.

Bill

Bill I think you are very close to what happened. More looking tonight, there is evidence that this pickup had a canopy and a full size rear door requiring the tailgate to be removed.

I think later the canopy was removed and a more common SLT gate was installed.

I'm still curious when the Laramie became a separate badge; any one in the know?

My 05 is a Laramie "H" package with leather and all the bells and whistles. My 95 3500 dually, on the other hand, was a Laramie SLT with cloth seats. Leather was not an option then, which I really wanted.

I think Bill is right about the '03 as the first year of just "Laramie". I keep a lot of junk so I have Ram catalogs for several years:) Per my '02 catalog, there is no mention of Laramie, even on the new body style 1500, just ST, SLT and SLT+ but still show pictures on the door piller with Laramie SLT.

Per my '03 catalog, the second year for the new body style 1500 and first year for the heavy duty, they show ST, SLT and Laramie packages, no Laramie SLT.

And for those interested, in '04 the SRT was introduced and in '05 the Power Wagon.

Grizz,

That's one of the resons I waited until '97 to replace my '92 D350 CTD. I looked at and sat in a pre-production '97 leather optioned 1500 at the St Louis assembly plant during the '96 TDR Rally. I came home and ordered the '97 3500 DRW with leather.

Bill

My 94 is still around, I don't remember the Laramie above the SLT, so I'll look next time I see it. But the truck was an SLT with the premium Infinity sound system and most of the options listed.

Bill, I really wanted leather also, but I had to order a new Dodge Cummins to replace the old F250 with a 390 CI gasser because it was having hard time pulling my 88 Alumilite 5th wheel up the hills.

I will say that the velour cloth seats on that 95 were the most comfortable seats I have ever had on any vehicle. I could sit on them all day without them hurting my butt. On my 05 with leather, I'm good for 1 1/2 hours max. My 03 Avalon has leather and they aren't as stiff as the Dodge. I just purchased a memory foam cushion on the Dodge from Costco. Haven't tried it yet.

Picture of my 95. Looks like my 05. Same color.
