I've read of a few guys that have this problem. Mirror in the flip up towing mirrors is so loose, they won't stay put.

Actually, once you realize that the mirror has to come out, it's not that bad. There's no other way to get to the hold down nut.

I used a hair dryer to get the morror surface nice and hot. Then I carefully pried the mirror up from one of the edges while still using the hair dryer to keep the glass hot. I used a small screwdriver the lift the edge enough to get a 3" scraper under it.

With a little persuasion, the main mirror(not the little spot mirror) slowly lifts up as the adhesive lets loose.

Then I just took a socket that fit over the little star shaped hold down nut and gave it a little tap. That's where the problem starts. Then I just used a little liquid nails to make sure everything stays in place. I would just use silicone and the double sided tape to put the glass back in, just in case.

Once you get past the glass part, it's pretty easy. I got the first mirror out without a problem. The second one cracked on me. Dodge does not sell a replacement glass for these mirrors. However, the mirror is perfectly flat, so I'm having a mirror shop cut a new mirror for me. I just traced the outline of the mirror on a piece of cardboard, cut out a template and left the template and the mirror housing at the shop so they could fit the glass in for me.

BTW, I bought these mirrors off of Ebay knowing they were loose. I think I only paid $68. 00 for the pair.

Now, do I replace the power mirrors with these?

A couple of pics.

Great information Curtis!

Was the mirror held only by the four adhesive squares? What are the serpentine patterns? Did you consider loosening the nut to look further into the mirror?

I replaced the power/heated OEM mirrors on my model year 2000 Ram over two years ago and have never regreted it. I leave the mirrors in the tow position and have never adjusted them other than when I installed them.

The little serpentine shapes are where the silicone adhesive was. It came off with the mirror.

I didn't delve much further into the mirror assembly. The hold down nut presses against the while cup which holds pressure against the part of the mirror backing that goes behind it.

Clear as mud?:)

again

As I posted before. . BEWARE. . there are many selling these and not disclosing that they are warranty returns being resold.

Nice repair. . I may attempt it. Right now i am using steel wedges in the orbit to tension it. THEY were a bear to install.

floppy mirrors?

I took the glass out of my tow mirrors so I could put grease in the ball & cup fixture so I was able adjust without breaking the glass. If you need the spot mirror that DC doesnt sell get a 4 or 5 inch bolt on spot mirror from your local parts store & any good glass shop can cut it to the rite shape so it will fit in the area made for it . Thats what I did. Rick

Mine have never sagged but.........

To bad you never had em on the truck. A before and after report would have been wonderful.

My problem is around 70 MPH they vibrate so bad it's hard to see out of em. You can still tell there's a car there but as my back end is always full I use em as rear views also and can't see if a CHP is behind me or not. Yeah, yeah I know,I shouldn't be speeding but out here you get run over if you don't!! That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Curtis, Yes --of course you install them. Almost as easy as pie & you know I love pie!! Oo. Except for the lack of power adjust, these are great mirrors.

I did end up selling those mirrors on Ebay. I just really like my power mirrors too much to get rid of them. Besides, with all the towing I don't do, I really didn't need them
