Flashlight advice

I'm looking to get a heavy duty flashlight to carry in my truck. I have some Maglites, but I want something in a more convenient package for setting on the ground and using as a flood light during roadside service.



I noticed Lowes has one by Energizer that's supposed to be "the toughest flashlight you'll ever buy". Where do you get those flashlights I always see in movies when they're looking for some victim in the woods late at night? They're really bright and have very large square battery housings.

rbattelle It sounds like your talking about the ones we use in the fire service. If you have any places that sell fire equipment nearer you they will have them, I forget who they are made by.

For roadside work I would suggest a headlamp. Petzl make a rather indestructable model called the tikka. It is LED, the the bulbs won't burn out or break from rough handling, and it is really small, just throw it in the glove box. The batterys last a LONG (12hours brigh, and it never goes out, it just gradualy gets dimmer over some crazy amount of time like 60 hours), it takes 3 AAA batterys.

As for a regular flashlight, Pelican makes a bunch of kick ass flashlights. They are great, they are plastic, which being an Electrican is a big plus for me. On top of that Pelican lights are actually made here is the US!

I have streamlights for work and at the house. I know they also make the flashlights with vehicles chargers. I recommend these as the ones I have are 15,000 candle power and the other is 40,000 CP. they are smaller than normal work flashlight (2 D cell) and much,much brighter. Under "Applications" is says "Marks emergency landing areas for incoming helos". COOL!



The Pelican Aqua King Lite is also very nice, as is the Responder SR2000 at Brightguy.com.

can't beat a streamlight... We carry survivor lights and lightboxes on all of our apparatus. We have probably 20 lightboxes and you can't kill 'em





If you wanna land a helo, kick a road cone over on it's side and point it towards the center of the landing zone, then put a lightbox inside and turn it on...

Probably not quite what you're looking for, but I swear by the SureFire flashlights (http://www.surefire.com). They provide the highest power/performance in the smallest package! And, of course, it's made in the USA.



I take an "A2 Aviator" along when flying (combined LED and white light); and I carry their "NRA CombatLight" with the upgraded (more lumens) "front end" when I 'carry'(i. e. almost always). This "CombatLight" is also the standard-issue tactical flashlight for FBI field agents, without the NRA logo, though ...



My wife carries their "G2 Nitrolon" tactical light in her 'carry' purse.



They're pricey, but worth every penny!



If you think MagLites are great, you haven't seen SureFire's yet... I do have the "big honkin' heavy" largest MagLite in the truck, but that's more to be used as a "baton" than to provide illumination .

Streamlight Vulcan is the only way to go. I have beat the crap out of mine for 3 years now. It's been dropped, in several burning buildings and still going strong.

I'll also agree on the surefire thing, I have a surefire light with a pressure switch on my Mossberg 500USA and that light is absolutely AWESOME

Personally, I am waiting for the next time there is a DUI checkpoint, that the "officer" decides to shine his baton flashlight in my face again. Have I got a 75,000 candle power surprise for him ! I will not put up with that again. They dude shined his light in my face and wouldn't take it off. Next time will be a different story. Don
