gotcha seafish, Id missed your previous post, sorry. I like that idea with the switch except that my sausage fingers may struggle with the small parts as Bobv suggested. I'll have to take minute and mull this over

On my 2014 I had a 20” led light bar in the bumper and also had it tied in with a relay to the high beams as well, but I had a toggle switch on that one so that I could control when it was able to come on automatically with the high beams. I only turned on that toggle switch if I was really out in the boonies or off-road this way if I was caught off guard with someone coming I just had to dim the lights and they’d go off as well rather than fumbling around to shut them down.
If you do do multiply relays like this, I’d suggest getting the high beam feed from the other headlight just so that you don’t draw too much “extra” current off the OEM high beam circuit on one side.

I like that, thats how Ive always wired aux lights on my Jeeps, so they go off with the dimmer switch or a manual switch as desired.

good to know about the light bar, maybe I will work the stock lights first and then if they work out adequately I can sell the light bar

Thanks

IMO, and as I described in my post on the subject, the easiest and safest way to do it is to buy a new "warranty" multifunction switch and then retrofit it in the comfort of your garage or living room without worrying bout how long it takes you because you have already dismantled it from your truck and you can't drive your truck in the meantime until you get it done. Then once the mod is done on the new switch, simply remove the old one in your truck and insert the modded one. You then have another switch to mod, doing an even better and more careful job using the info that you learned from doing the first one...LOL!!!

Ive never understood why either, I mean if you go to high beams you want LIGHT! why turn off 2/3 of the light sources? Ii have upgraded the headlight bulbs but not to HID yet. I have a lightbar to add too but I need to build the mount for it as I want it bumper height vice above the windshield.

I can imagine that there is a bit of blindness when you go from all six to just the two low beams. I remember when I had a pair of 6x9 aux lights on my 01, going back to just the low beams for oncoming traffic was light turning off all the lights...

thanks!

While I dont fully agree with this I was told its because when you use high beams the goal is to see further and having the fog lights on creates a bright spot in front of the truck making it harder to see distance, essentially it distracts your eyes if there is too much light up close and you end up not seeing as far.

In terms of blindness when going back to low beams I find having amber film on my led lights, tied into my brights through an on/off/on switch, makes it much easier to see when the led lights are on and when going back to low beams, just easier on my eyes all around.

thanks, i hadnt thoughth of that, I do know that with the high beams alone the light doesnt seem adequate at any distance, its like its to diffuse or something... I hadnt thought of the amber lens idea, thats a good idea

I guess it’s a US law that fogs turn off with the highs, but I’ve never read it.

Fogs on with highs is in the “export” menu on the ECM and why bullydog can enable it.

I use the brite box and it’s been flawless.

Hmmm Id not heard that but every vehicle Ive been in lately (2) seems to turn off the fogs when you hit High beams so it may well be the case?

glad the brite box is working for you, I shouldnt be so cheap I guess

If the Bullydog can change a parameter to allow fogs with high beams, can the same thing be done with an aftermarket scan toll such as snap on or with the dealer scan tool? Or is it “custom” programming?
