I installed an Edge EZ box on my truck and had a couple questions on how the trans was responding. Y'all gave me some good advice and the truck is running like a champ now. All is well, trans is OK, all is right with the world!

Well, this is one of the entries in the thread:

Did you install a new little brass elbow in the turbo or block the wastegate? If you didn't I wouldn't think you set any codes. Your transmission should hold with the EZ. Take it by a Autozone and they can read any codes. If no codes go ahead and smoke the transmission IF!!! it is covered by warranty.

Nope, didn't install the boost elbow. I thought I would try the EZ without it to start with. I know the trans is covered on the warranty because we made sure that was part of the coverage. I am just gonna go ahead and drive it and if it pukes the trans, then DC can put in a new one!

Sometimes I wish it had been a 6 speed. That is what I would buy if I were ordering one today?

One thought, would putting a shift kit in the auto make any difference? I know due to the warranty thing, I can't, I was just thinking out loud (gets me in trouble every time!!

Now this seems innocent enough, right! Well, be careful what you say on the TDR, it can come back and bite you in the ass!

On Friday, I got the following letter from R. J. MacKendrick, the Warranty Administration Manager, West Business Center for Daimler Chrysler. This is what he had to say:

Dear Mr. Grady,

DaimlerChrysler has been made aware that you have modified your vehicle, VIN xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, by installing an Edge Products performance-enhancing device on your 2003 Dodge CTD Ram truck.

According to your new vehicle warranty, the additon of modifications may void the warranty on your truck. As such, DaimlerChrysler has placed a warranty restriction on your vehicle's transmission. With the warranty restriction in place, the servicing dealer will need notify the DaimlerChrysler West Business Center and arrange for an inspection of any failed parts before any warranty coverage is authorized.

This restriction does not automatically void your new vehicle warranty, but allows a mechanism for the manufacturer to protect itself from unathorized modifications. Unless the dealer notifies us of further problems with the vehicle that might have occurred because of the Edge box, (i. e. , engine or axles) your remaining warranty is still in effect.

Sincerely,

Damiler Chrysler Motors Company, LLC

Soooooo, I guess my point is, be careful what you say here, or be careful how you say what you say here, or be careful who you say to what you say here. This truck has not been to the dealer for them to see the Edge box was installed. Plus, the letter specifically refers to the transmission "problem" I thought I had.

I don't know who informed DC about this, but I am sure as H*** gonna do my best to find out!

If I had taken the truck to the dealer either with the Edge box installed, or they had found out about it during the course of doing warranty work, that is one thing, I knew I was taking that chance when I installed it, but to have some lowlife rat me out, is beyond my comprehension!!

I guess I just hope this never happens to anyone else here. This forum should be a "safe" place to discuss our problems, ideas, and concerns. I guess it isn't!

Y'all take care and keep up the good work! Great bunch of folks here with a ton if information.

Alan

Interesting... ... Was that posted in a diffrent thread here? Glad to hear your truck is running well.

I gotta think that somebody has duped you. I would think that consumer privacy rights would come into effect if they (DC) tried to void your warranty based off something posted on a website. Besides that, they have no idea who you specifically are based on your posts and user ID. They only other possibility is if EDGE in someway supplied DC with EDGE purchaser information.

Man, that would **** me right off... its none of there business

until something breaks... then they can try and squirm outta the

warranty work. GEZZ just confirms that they must have tons of

DC folks that stay glued to this site... . still dont think its legal by

just reading what you POST! Good Luck

Well, gents, here is the kicker! I purchased the Edge EZ used from a guy on the Diesel Truck Resource site! No way Edge was involved in this at all. How they got my name, address, phone number, and VIN number just blows my mind! And, what bothers me more is that the reference was to the transmission thread ONLY!

Alan

Alan,

You don't think someone you know is having a "little fun" at your expense do you? I know a few that might try something like that on me.

Fireman

Fireman,

I know some folks like that too! But unfortunately, this is not the case. The letter is on official DC stationary and the letter was in an official DC envelope.

I am going to write back and try and find out where he got this information. I may or may not have the Edge installed on my truck, but only I know for sure. I don't see how they can pull this crap on me without actually looking under the hood!

Something is awful fishy here... this is all very very strange. There is no way for anyone to get your VIN or your full name and address from this site unless you specifically post them.

Rbatelle,

That is what I thought too. I have NEVER given out any personal information either in threads or PMs. This is the strangest thing I have ever had happen and it makes me really spooked.

Anyone have any phone numbers I can call at DC to try and get to the bottom of this (like they are gonna be of any help at all!).

I am gonna start tomorrow trying to find out what the heck is going on here.

Hmmmmm, the CIA/FBI can't find terrorists but DC can find an Edge EZ in a truck that they have not seen under the hood!! Maybe DC should start chasing terrorists and the CIA/FBI start doing warranty stuff!!

:D ;)

Maybe you should take it (Edge EZ) out of your signature... . :(

Maybe DC takes more interest in this site than anyone could have imagined. After all, this is where everyone gets informed on all the common warranty issues. Like slow passenger side windows, drive-line vibrations, crappy clutch feel, etc. ( I know there are many more, they just escape me at the moment) This is just another (funded by DC) attempt to stop warranty loss at the dealer. So by saying all this I imagine I will be the next recipient of the "LETTER". :p

George Orwell did not know that Big Brother on the telescreen was DC.

Go by a DEALER and have them run your vin number(in service)and tell them you want a copy of it for your records. It will show ANY RESTRICTIONS etc. as well as remaining factory warranty.

That was a good idea so I did it. No more rererence to the EZ.

Yup, sure looks like someone is keeping track of what goes on here. I just hope this isn't the first of many of these letters that go out!! Watch out guys, DC is watching. . .

If you still have the envelope, where was it post marked from? That should give some insight into who/where/when it was sent. Having the dealer run a vin number data search was also a good suggestion to find out if this was legit. IMHO, somebody is screwing with you... ...

Just checked out the envelope, it is the real thing! Everything matches and is official DC stationery.

Any of you Dodge dealers out there have a contact number I can call to try and get to this R. J. MacKendrick dude? Any help will be kept in strictest confidence. PM me if you can help.

Here's what I would do:

I would take it in and get the transmission serviced and see what the dealer says. Tell them the transmission feels a little weird and see if you can get them to do something under warranty. You'll be able to find out immediately if it's been flagged. I would love to see them try to prove you had an alleged EDGE EZ box on your truck and deny your claim. Make DC prove you had an alleged box on your truck. I'm sure they won't be able to prove anything because the internet is such a wealth of Court-admissible evidence. I'm sure they've tracked your member name, login password, address, bank account, VIN, all through your IP address.

Good Idea! I just might do that. A co-worker came up with the same idea, that DC had used my IP address to backtrack and get my information, which, I would think, was somewhat less than legal! I am going to check into this as well and see if that could be the case. I would think that would be invasion of privacy if they did that.

Damn, this makes me mad!
