5 cylinder?

Isuzu Diesel P'UP Website w/Forum

Funny thing. I started working PT at BMW of Denver (motorcycles) two weeks ago. The master tech there usually rode his bike but I saw him one day in a white extended cab Ford 6. 0 F-350.

I never got the nerve or the reason to ask him about his truck, but I did today. We were BSing about selling my truck and buying the bike. I told him my truck is a Cummins and he asked why I would want to get rid of it. I asked if he likes Cummins and he said heck yeah. I asked why did you get a 6. 0 then? He said he would rather have a Cummins than a 6. 0 but prefers the Ford rather than the Dodge. I asked him if he had had any problems with it. Said, yeah the turbo blew up the first day he bought it but other than that, no. 50,000 miles on it. It's an 03, bought it used.

No, I don't really have a point... . Ok, maybe a little. Point is, he knows about the problems, still loves the Cummins more than PSDs, and likes Fords better than Dodges.

That place is like an addiction. I know it's wrong and unhealthy, but it just draws me in. . There's something about narrow minded people that chaps my butt, and that place is full of them. I'm involved with a thread right now where I ACTUALLY told a guy to get the Ford V10 over a CTD, and it's like I took a leak on the grave of Henry Ford. :-laf Now they are just bashing me, telling me about how I know nothing, and how Fords can do this and that whereas Dodge can't. Dodges have weak frames, bad brakes, bad transmissions and can't work, ect. . If some of those guys see "Dodge" in your sig, you're marked for death. It's the same old thing, sales, GVWR, transmissions, blah, blah. :{ If I was actually interested in making fun of ford, I'd go to the 6. 0 section. It'd be like a kid in a candy store and would be much too easy.

Dodge transmission

I hear that BS about our transmissions all the time. My Die hard Chevy buddy who only drives Powerstrokes  drove my truck the other day and was raving about how wonderful my transmission was. He tried to make himself feel better by reminding me that I paid 4K for it and it was not an OEM unit. My reply was that it had 130k on it at power well above stock and only needed some relatively minor mods to get to where he loved it. (Thanks Dave Goerend) I then asked him why he had aftermarket leather seats, a lift kit tires and wheels and new stereo in his Ford and he replied cause I like that stuff better than what the truck came with. Asked him why I can't upgrade too  Anyway He doesn't like Cummins but admits my truck is much more fun to drive than his. Go figure. It doesn't really matter in the end, the important part is that we are happy with what we bought. I do notice I get a strange look from other diesel guys at stop lights, I figure its Diesel envy and don't sweat it. Best of all my two year old loves "Daddy's Choo Choo Truck" That seals it for me ;)

WOW! Cushman really came back with a vengence! His 2 posts on page 8 are impressive.

I said it before and I'll say it again: my heart goes out to anyone (Dodge, GM, Ford) who buys a vehicle and has big trouble with it. I know that sinking feeling you get in the pit of your stomach that makes you want to vomit up your internal organs when you realize you may have made a major mistake. It's unpleasant and I don't wish it on anyone.

Having said that, when the boat is sinking you might consider heading overboard. The USS Ford and the USS GM are both sinking. Ford has been in "junk" status for some time now, GM was recently placed in junk status by S&P and Fitch. Share prices for Ford are down around $10, GM around $32 (note GM's shares are inflated a bit by Kirk Kerkorian's recent acquisition). Kerkorian will probably succeed in rescuing GM shareholders (like he did with Chrysler some years ago), but who's out there saving Ford?

Recently Ford introduced the new F-150 (a great truck, I think) and the new Mustang (a great car, I think). Still they flounder. They continue to have problems with suppliers like Visteon (ala GM and Delphi). They continue to lose market share (they've got something like 18% market share in the US now). Toyota just keeps gaining market share (they're now the #2 world automaker).

Lets look at May. DC is expected to show a 3. 1% increase in sales, while Ford will get 2. 2% decrease and GM 4. 2% decrease. Meanwhile Toyota will gain 17% in sales. Ford (and GM) are expected to cut production. At least GM did well on this years Initial Quality Survey... Ford did poorly (the Focus and the 500 both tied in their segments with other makes/models).

It has been suggested (by Gerry Meyers, University of Michigan economics professor) that the US market may soon resemble Europe's, where no single company has a particularly large share. In my personal opinion, GM and Ford simply cannot survive in that environment.

How does all this relate to Ford and the 6. 0? Well, large trucks are the last of the big profit makers. If they screw them up... look out. I've heard a few 6. 0s running, and they sound pretty sick. At work we have a street sweeper with a VT365 (same as the 6. 0, I think) in it... it sounds normal (other than an F-16 style turbo whine... I mean so loud it would be annoying to drive).

I'm sorry, but everyone over at the Ford site seems to be wrong.....

The only good diesel ford has made is the pre 94 6. 9 and 7. 3 engines... Powerstrokes are overcomplicated jokes...

It's too late!! They've turned on each other and have now resorted to cannibalism. All Dodge owners should evacuate the TDS country while you still can! :-laf
