That's great that the company is stepping up. But it seems odd to me that they would give the impression, in their advertising, that all trailers will be okay with a small bed and their hitch. So many trailers, with so many different shapes and pin box lengths, some have rounded corners and some don't.

I would say the big variable here is the incline. Obviously if you're backing your rig up an incline the front cap is automatically closer to the cab when you start your turn. I believe in their marketing propaganda they need to asterisk this, and say "on level ground" or something like that.

I'm not sure about you fellas with the short beds and fivers. I get stressed out for the owners just seeing this configuration, particularly with the even shorter short beds. Rather than deal with this, I just talked myself into knowing my truck will never fit in a standard garage. As for length driving/parking/etc, I've never really noticed the difference in bed length (had a short bed as my first truck 2nd gen), even with my even-longer Mega Cab Longbed conversion.

Dealer Finally has 3 Lb dually trucks in. Out of about 400 trucks when I was looking in our area, One dually that was being sold, and One long bed SRW Tradesman... That's it.. The Dealer said the Short beds are more popular.. My thought and question to him is "WHY?"... I understand the length issues. The Newer Rams with the quad cab long beds are something like 22 feet long.... However, many of us in the RV world really need the Long Beds.... Today I put the REESE picture Frame in the Puck system on the truck and installed the Capture Plate on the Mor ryde.... How do you guys lift the hitches into the trucks??

How about the front of your 5th wheel? I did the same thing on my Arctic Fox vs pickup several years ago when backing into a tight camp spot. The damage was so minor on the truck, you had to be standing next to it it see it. Of course I didn't give it another thought about any possible damage to the trailer. 8 months later, after lots of rain and some snow accumulation over winter, it turns out there was a small separation in the seam along the top in the front of the trailer. I'm talking less than 2" that was not visible when I cleaned it up to put it away for the winter. The end result was water damage through the front. The entire bottom around the gooseneck was damaged. Truck fix was right at $500. Trailer....$3200. Just in case it looks ok, make sure to look again...

dfb,
As an older, and weaker guy, I installed a small rope hoist in the garage ceiling. I can lift the hitch up, drive out of the way, and then drop it on to a rolling cart for storage.
Works great for older guy's.

Some Rams trucks are only available with the short bed. You have no choice in the matter if you want a Mega Cab then you get a short bed.

Hence the need for a slider hitch.

Will the superglide guarantee no contact of Rv and truck?

I do not know! I use a Reese manual slider hitch and as long as you engage the maneuver position you should not hit the cab. The only time I engage the maneuver position is when I am backing into my driveway and into narrow campground sites. For normal day in and day out driving on city streets and the interstate I am in the towed position.

I am towing a 2016, 34RL Cedar Creek 5er now. My other two 5er's were a 2006 Ameri-camp and a 2010 318SAB Cougar. I did hit the cab once with the Ameri-camp (2001 Chevy gas truck). I was new to towing the 5er and I got rushed and forgot to engage the maneuver position to allow me to back up.

Let's say it should work without hitting the cab. I had a Reese slide hitch in the '01. It was out of sheer laziness I ended up with cab/trailer contact. A spot that was easily backed into without moving the hitch to maneuver position many times before. This one time, there was a hole the back wheel went into...the rest is history. I have the B&W slide hitch '14 and ALWAYS put it in the maneuver position. My driveway is 90 degrees from the street. Some say they can maneuver without the slide. Not for me to try again.

Fantastic.....Now I can tell my wife I saved $8400 more by not buying the shortbed she liked!!!!:-laf
