So I was drilling a hole in my exhaust manifold today to install my SPA pyro guage probe, and I decided to remove my turbo before drilling. I actually just removed the 4 nuts and pulled the turbo away about 3 inches to stuff the rag in. The lower left nut was a bugger to get off. It might have been easier to do if I wasn't wearing nice clothes (didn't want to lay on my back). Anyway, I decided to remove the whole air filter box to make the job easier. When I removed the air filter I found 1/4 of the back side of the filter was covered with 2 inches of "mouse nest". This obviously didn't help the airflow any. I had a similar experience with my 98 gasser, it was full of acorns and "chipmunk nest stuff". With both of these trucks, I was not fortunate enough to order them and receive them "brand new", they had been sitting on the lot for 3 or 4 months. So if your truck sat on the lot for a while, you might want to take a look.

The pyro guage install was a little scary (I hate drilling holes in my truck), but it went exactly as planned. I spent several hours researching the relevent posts on this forum. All of my questions were answered, including some I didn't even think of. Thanks a lot, it really helped.

It was a good thing you had a filter in there you might have sucked one of those little "buggers" through the Turbo!!! #ad
I think that might void your warranty!! #ad

I had the mouse problem so bad that I had to poprivet expanded metal mesh over the airbox intakes on both my rigs. The little buggers tore the insulation off the hood & firewall, filled the airboxes all the way overnite,I only found out due to power loss. Good thing they didn't chew though the filters, could of been a major problem...

This is actually a not so rare problem. It happened to me on my little truck, it happened to my Mom's car-it cost $300 to have the wiring harness replaced that they ate. Moral of the story, check those things from time to time. Better yet, get a watch cat.

dont feel bad one lady's car we serviced (new bmw by the way) had approx. 1pd. of dog food in her air box from mice we are to assume, we were laughing so hard she wanted to know what it was about, she was as shocked as we were when she saw the dog food, we had to explain how it probably happened, We let her know normally we dont laugh at peoples cars but we had to make an exception in this case
B... ... ... ... ... ... ... .

I had a terrible time with mice in the past few years. They were eating wires, building nests on my engine blocks, and floating dead in open beverage containers. Then this summer, their numbers began to drop rapidly. Turns out that two weasels moved into my house. Now I have a new problem, but my air filter is clean.

A mouse or rat chewed the insulation off some of the wiring harness on my wife's 1998 Lexus GS400 when the car was only 6 months old. Boy was she pissed! Car still ran fine and dealer did the repair under warranty. They also provided a free loaner, a Lexus ES300 with only 50 miles on it. The Lexus dealer here has customer appreciation parties twice a year where all those who ever bought new cars from them are invited. Parties are first class, with free drinks, crab legs, shrimp, prime rib, etc. and live entertainment. In fact the next one we are going to is Oct. 10 at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel. Now if DC would take care of their customers like Lexus did... ... .

I was shopping at a Cadillac dealer in Phoneix on their customer appreciation day. Had a nice feed bag for the customers. Their entire showroom and inventory was inside.

Somehow or other, you must be paying too much for the car in order for them to afford those nice parties!

I felt we got a good deal. Paid $44K for the car, MSRP with the options we had was $46467. Maybe I'll ask the Lexus GM where the money for the parties come from. Dodge dealer told me I would get a coupon for a free oil change if I filled out a survey. Never got it. Never got a call back after going down in person and leaving my phone number after saying I was interested in ordering a Dakota QuadCab. (This was about two months before they were released. ) This was from the same dealer I bought my 96 3500 from. Same dealer kept my truck overnight to adjust the idle speed (it was at 1100 rpm) two days after I bought it. Told me it was very difficult to adjust the idle and they had to open the pump. After joining the TDR I find I can adjust the idle in less than 5 min.

I apologize for the off topic post.
