Hi Gentlemen Penny here.

I am sending this post via Greg, Gail had full intentions of setting down and finding out what is wrong with his being able to access TDR. Anyway there has been several Email's so rather than address each one I thought I could save a bit of time and do it this way. Greg is such a Sweetheart for helping us out until Gail can get back. Jason asked his Uncle for help breaking down Hunt Camp, it didn't take much for Gail to saddle up, is why Gail isn't doing this instead of me.

The question has been if BIG has fallen off the planet, NO!! he has been doing what he loves and dreamed about doing in his retirement. In July he Danny and Alex (Gail and Alex worked together ) went on a loop ride called the Grand Loop approximately 400 miles. Gail went just to go and take pictures and see places in his backyard that he hadn't been before, Danny and Alex had a fantastic fishing trip. The trip took pretty much the entire month of July, they had prearranged re-supply points where we met them mainly for livestock feed. Gail was able to take Mountain Grouse, Rabbit, Danny and Alex caught fish but its still not steak!! and fresh veggies. It was also nice to see his mug every couple of weeks, several of us met up with then on the last leg, and re-supply point to ride the last week into home with them.

Gail then went into full-bore mode with setting up hunting camp for the month of August, with days off here and there to keep me from yelling!! so he says.

Hunting camp was the best time that any of us could remember, I think I told you that he guided 8 older ( 80+) men to fill their Elk tags and most of them filled their Mule Deer tags also, this was done bow hunting. Then the rest of the Family came up for 10 days of hunting, Everyone filled their Elk tags and some filled the Deer as well. It was a Grand time, Gail was looking pretty used up by this time and took some time off to rest. He went back to camp guiding clients for our Nephew Jason for 4 weeks. Its a pretty hard job to take care of the livestock, guide and pack game out and food and feed back, but this is where it seems Gail thrives, the harder he works doing this the better he likes it, to be honest with you he was starting to scare me a little with not getting any sleep and eating right.

He then loaded up his Pack String and traversed the Continental Divide to guide a friend on a Mountain Goat hunt for 2 weeks, upon a successful completion of that hunt he re-supplied and came back to Hunt camp and then home.

Father and Jason tallied up the totals of his efforts, He guided 28 hunters all of them scored Elk, of the 28, 20 scored Mule Deer, 1 Mountain Goat and over a 1000 miles of saddle time accumulated on the seat of his britches, and still putting more miles on with the dismantling of Hunt camp.

Gail and I have talked he confided in me that he's not going to do this again, he loves to hunt and guide (who he wants to) but working like this is just to much. For him to say that startled me, I asked if he was alright? he said im fine but I want to save some *** for when my Grandchildren get old enough to hunt with Gramps, at 61 I just cant keep up this pace. I see him with the Grandchildren, and I think that he didn't ever expect to be holding them, he's the best Gramps in the world In my opinion there is nothing that he wont do for them, and spoils Zachary rotten. He and Gail go out to the barn to do chores, Zachary looks like a Mini Me of Gail, he has his cowboy hat, boots and has is own little tools to help clean the barn, Gail has him sitting up front on the hay wagon driving the mules ( they drive themselves really) Gail saddles up Daisy and they go for rides, they are inseparable the entire time that Zachary is here.

Gail's photography is in competition at an Art Show. He takes some of the most beautiful pictures and gives them as gifts or we hang them in the house. He had been working on this one set of pictures that he called, Seasons, its a set of four pictures all from the same place over looking the valley. He has taken each one of them at a different time of year, Spring, Summer, Fall and winter, they are quite beautiful. Mother and I entered the pictures because he said it was no big deal. So far his pictures are in the top 5, he has been contacted by Art Dealers to show some of his work, he shines it on like its just another snapshot. The dealers bought some of his photos for Calenders and Greeting Cards.

Well that's about it, im leaving lots out but I have things to do while Gail is out having fun someone has to do the work around here. Im kidding he has been working sun-up to sun-down trying to catch up on the things that need to be done before Winter comes.

Penny, Big and I have talked/TDR forum style a few times over the years. I'm in ND working the Bakken Oil platch and enjoy a great deal of the same things you guys do, mine is part time and youall do it full time. Eventhough I've often thought about checking out your part of Montana I haven't and may not due to life's demands. If a outsider can make an observation; I'd say Big/Gail lives life as it's meant to be lived.... full on and BIG. Congratulations to both of you!

Penny you are one in a MILLION. "YOU DO STAND BY YOUR MAN". He is very fortunate to have a partner like you.
I have to admire him for what he does and how he does it.
Thanks for the up date.

Penny, The "Gail and I have talked he confided in me that he's not going to do this again" is just like you women and child birth. The pain soon is a distant memory and when it's time, you're ready to go again. After a winter/Spring/Summer he'll spend some time up in the high country and do it all over again. Maybe a smaller group but he'll do it again.

Good to hear of all the tags being filled. That puts GOOD meat in the freezer for quite a while.

Best to the both of you,
Greg

More from BIG!

BIG is dealing with a blocked access to TDR. The problem has not been determined. He asked that I post on His behalf to let You know that he is not purposely ignoring everyone on TDR. It seems that TDR is the only website he cannot access!!!!
If any of You Folks out there have some ideas on what could be the cause? Please email BIG. He has tried everything from computer system troubleshooting, satellite router box and contacting TDR administration. He even removed all of His pictures off the computer and "restored to original"! That was a huge, time consuming chore. Here is a cut/paste from his email to help you see his frustration.
We need to get BIG back on the TDR!

Sure please do ask them, maybe someone can come up with something, I have removed all my pictures and reset the computer back to Factory condition and then re-installed everything even tried different browsers and NOTHING!! The link you gave me? I put that in and it searches and comes up with " This Page cannot be displayed" I can go ANYPLACE else and have no problems, ( that reminds me send BTO web page if you will so I can add that to my favorites)

IIRC BIG has Hughes Net for IP. His browser is Google Chrome. He also tried access with windows explorer. Same result.
Thanks For Your Help!
I Know BIG will be appreciative!

Thanks!
GregH

Try browsing to http://www.tdr1.com or http://69.61.10.82.
On a PC, open a cmd window and run
Code:
tracert www.turbodieselregister.com
tracert www.tdr1.com
On a Mac or GNU/Linux, the command name is most likely 'traceroute'.

I'd love to know why vBulletin replies and quotes don't work in *my* version of chromium (on Debian GNU/Linux); I always have to use another browser.

The usual repair is to delete all TDR cookies. Remember, if you sign into chrome, it stores your cookies, bookmarks and other browser stuff at google. You probably have to ensure that cookies are deleted there, too.

If it's a PC, he may have, somehow, added TDR to the Windows firewall (which, admittedly, should have been reset when he restored the computer to 'as shipped').

Have you tried logging into his account from your computer? That will eliminate his computer set-up. I'm surprised the admin pointy heads can't help him. System restoration really is a pita.

The system is currently acting up. I have had to sign in the past couple days, it has never done what its doing now. I'm sure that administration will get on it ASP. Maybe Steve is out of touch right now.

Just a suggestion...

We use "Team Viewer" at work for situations like this. A free program that allows others to temporarily take over a computer. Our IT guy and even I use it to unsnarl a computer at a remote location.
It is secure, works by generating a 6 digit random code on the unit needing a hand. Then I enter that code into the Team Viewer software on my Laptop and take the remote unit over.
Similar software is used by Daimler IT when a dealer is having issues with the dealer software.

Perhaps Neal or someone of his caliber would do a Team Viewer with Big, locate and repair the issue and get him back on here.....
Have to either call or e-mail the code to the helper.

Mike.

Finally IM ON!!!! I have found that I have a Love/Hate relationship with this thing. I like to gab but when it wont let me IM P***ED!!! Big time.

I have reached my limit on living it like I WANT!! I just cant anymore, I haven't been weight training and doing my Aerobics and maybe this is the reason that I ran out of gas. I don't think that putting in 18 hour days had an effect on my old body, Do You? I think that Penny has finally seen thru my screen, I really didn't expect to make it to this age, Its the reason that I went full bore non stop in most everything I do. Now that I think that I just might make a few more of the Birthdays Im going to slow down and save something for our Grandchildren. I thought that making a Family with Penny was the best thing ever, with the addition of the Grandchildren I have had to re-think that. Penny and I love to sit and watch our little part of the Family Grow.

TJJeeper

I don't think so, im still plenty sore, The Goat hunt was ABSOULETLY!! the worst camping experience that I have had. Living above tree line and on ROCK 24/7 for 2 weeks is just NOT GOING TO HAPPEN AGAIN. My shoulders are sore as blister as are my hips, I took some Cortisone shots in my hips and one wrist and thumb, I have had the shots ONCE before in my shoulder and I would rather them cut my arms off before they do that again.

The plus side to the computer problem is that I have learned more about this computer than I ever wanted to.

BIG

Big, believe me I can relate. I'm a 1951 baby, (drive a 51 Chev. 3/4 ton pickup). I'm 6' 175 lbs.,never sick and until this year able to do all I wanted. Cut and split firewood (only heat source), bail and haul square bales and enjoyed hard work. Little brother summed it up well a few years ago when a neighbor said, I always thought you boys were to smart to work that hard. Little Bro's response; I'd rather be in the hay field than in the best hospital in the world.

Last year I camped at 9,400' with little Bro, walked 7 miles in most every morning, yep about 2.5 hours; past where the guides on horses carried their dudes and got on bugling bulls in late October. Didn't kill for the 4th time in 15 years in the same area but it was a good hard hunt. This year I got suckered in as project manager on a 60 mile pipeline project just south of the Canadian border and haven't done any thing to stay in shape......I doubt I could split firewood for camp,,,it's not the years it's the staying in shape that counts.

Grand kids, got one and words don't describe the pleasure I get when he says "Papa, can we go....shoot the gun, ride, feed the horses, go the cabin, and so on. It's good to grow old, who knew!

Enjoy every day. Ron

I believe the saying goes something like this: "If I'd had known I would live this long, I would have taken better care of myself."
Being a '48 model, "I feel your pain".

Gettin old ain't for sissies!

Or as my Dad told my Brother, "You'll never feel any older than you do today, stuff just quit working as good"

Moparguy you hit it on the head. Trying to stay in some kind of shape is the key. I've hit the gym 3 to 4 times per week all my life. (I'm a '51 model as well). This year I drew my 3rd Wyo. bighorn sheep tag. Rode 24 miles in to camp, hunted at around 10k ft. for 3 days before tagging a ram, but felt good at all times doing it. Sure, I was a bit stiff in the a.m., but not to the point it kept me from doing what I wanted. My goal is to still be able to bench over 300 at age 80!

MLee, DONT TELL HER STUFF LIKE THAT!!!!!!!!

I will have to take her to the jewelry store!!! :-laf

Your right she always has been at my side from the day we said I DO, I have gave her a lot of grief over the years with my addiction problem, and many medical accidents that needed to be fixed surgically, I could always count on one thing when I woke up and that was her pretty face looking at me saying, Welcome Back Sweetie.

Now that we are retired she lets me do pretty much what I want, most of the time if I DONT do something its because I feel guilty about doing it without her. She overheard my buddies and I at the café talking about the NFR going on in Las Vegas that I have tickets for in December. She was sitting at the breakfast table with us all and said you guys should take a Road Trip and go to Vegas and make a week out of it.

She started to laugh, she said that it was dead quite and the look on our face's wasn't to be believed, They said you would let BIG go? she said why not? they thought about it for a bit and they all handed their cell phones to her and said tell my wife that, she wont believe me if I tell her that your going to let BIG go without you. So she did

WATCH OUT LAS VEGAS WE ARE COMING TO TOWN !!! Penny said Poor Las Vegas :-laf

Moparguy you hit it on the head. Trying to stay in some kind of shape is the key. My goal is to still be able to bench over 300 at age 80!

I have no idea what I can bench, it does me absolutely no good to bench 300lbs, I cant lift it anyway my leg wont take that much weight. I went to put a Elk hind 1/4 on a mule and the leg shaft of my Prosthetic leg wrinkled because its not meant to carry me AND the Elk hind 1/4

I workout a little different than most do, Until very recently we didn't have a gym, Penny and I have made the walk-out basement into a workout room. We have a 6 position work station with a bunch of free weights for it. A Precor Elliptical walker, a set of Boxflex adjustable dumbbells, Penny has a Precor stepper and there are various incline sit up boards and benches to workout on. During the winter its nice to workout indoors and warm.

Even then I use this equipment differently, I cant run on my leg and it does my other non OEM knee any good to be pounding it to oblivion so I use the crap out of the Elliptical walker for my Cardio. In the winter I go cross country skiing or snowshoeing for my cardio, Penny likes to Do-Da and sight see, I use the 15 to 20 mile loop as a workout, right out the door, how convenient is that!!

I don't need to lift anything more than my body weight at 220lbs (right now) I do pull ups, chin up in the barn while im out doing chores I jump up and grab a rafter and do alternating chin ups and behind the head pull ups, 20 each way, I don't do another set right away I might do some chores then do another couple of sets. Same goes with bar dips I can do 40 dips for a set and then come back later and do the others. In between might involve cutting wood, want a good all around back workout? try cutting pine tree into 20" rounds when the tree is 100ft long that's a lot of work when your on one of the business ends of a two man crosscut saw, I have a single man saw but im not man enough for to much of that Crap, of course you change sides to work both sides of your back, I have a wood splitter but sometimes I just use a 20lbs sledge hammer and a wedge, or just for kicks take that sledge and beat the crap out of a cut off tree stump for a half hour and take a breather and try another couple of sets of that changing side to keep your back even.(it works great to take your anger out on the stump) In the evening watching TV (I read the wife watches the Boob Tube) during a commercial I do push ups, with a sack of #7 1/2 shot the wife put between my shoulder blades, I do set ups using the same bag of shot held in front of my chest. I think that bag of shot weight is 25lbs. At the end of the evening you can have a few hundred pushups and the same amount of setups done. A Great shoulder and upper body workout is when a hay truck comes with two trailers one 45ft and a 30ft pup,15ft high 10ft wide full front to back with 90lb 3 wire hay bales for you to unload and put in the hay loft using a rope and pulley to lift it up to the wife so she can stack it in the loft, don't know how many bales that is but its a BALL BUSTER of a workout. Being a Farrier for livestock is a FANTANTISC BACK and LEG WORKOUT, just ask anyone that works as a Farrier that's if they can stand up straight to talk to you, have a 1000lbs horse lean on ya will make you cry uncle pretty fast.

Lifting HEAVY weight is something that I have never done, it makes to much bulk on the body and really big mussels eat oxygen way more than just a lean strong build. During my Many Re-hab gigs I have gone to take some adult ed classes for Kinesiology, it is basically the study of human movement, Big muscles are not very conducive to easy movement. When is the last time you have seen some bulked up guy stand stiff legged and flat hand the ground in front of him? TO BULKY, and Besides, My Ariat Shirts don't fit right if im to bulked up, they are baggie in the sleeves!!!

I was picking up some of the machines from the store and the sales guy said your in pretty decent shape what kind of workout do you do? I told him the above and he said something that I kind of like, your not fitness club strong your Country Strong. I have to agree with him that there is nothing better to get in shape than just plain old hard A** work and do some cardio for fun.
