Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Front Axle?

Will the right front axle from a 2001 fit a 98? Or did they change the housing up? I was thanking of changing up a 98 to be like the newer ones. That way you would know that the 4x4 is going to work. Had to get a vac. hose back on after getting stuck in the mud and that is no fun. I drive in pastures the has brush that drags the hoses off. I have tried to route them where that wont happen but havent had all that much luck.

No you can't use the 1 piece axle out of a later truck. The axle oil seal is placed in a different spot. An outfit called Posi-Lock has a piece that replaces the CAD Unit that locks the two axle halfs together. Might look them up.
