I was having intermitent abs and brake light on dash on for awhile. Friday my brake light switch went out. Saturday I replaced the brake light swtch. Everything ok! No abs or brake light on dash. Cruise worked ok. everything looked good. went for about a five mile ride ,when I pulled in driveway ,brake peddle way high ,both front brakes smoking:eek:... What would cause both front brakes to put the squeeze on? Brought it to a mechanic but he looked miffed about it:confused: Thanks for any help on this one.

Make sure the new brake light switch is not keeping the brake pedal from returning all the way to the top when you release the brakes. bg

I had the same problem; both ABS and brake light on, added fluid to master cylinder reservoir (halfway down), hard pedal near the top, hot front brakes that would not disengage until stopped for about half an hour to cool. Replaced pads and calipers in front, bled system, still had hard pedal and front brakes that would not disengage.

Could this be brake hydroboost or proportioning valve? How do I test for these two? Any other suggestions?

HELP!! Need truck right away. Only wheels.

I replaced the front right caliper on my 96 after it quit working. Ended up that my RH brake hose has getting pinched from rust at the clamp by the frame. Replaced brake hose and bled system, now it works great.

I've never had it happen to me but brake hoses can fall apart inside and create a one way valve preventing them from releasing
