Thankful I had the Fab Fours bumper...
Last Tuesday, 10/19/21, the bumper paid for itself!
Traveling on I-84, speed limit 65, doing about 73, heading West from Milford, PA to Lords Valley, PA, mile marker 36.6 (about 5 miles from the house) at 1PM, "Hello Doe"!
Bent the left vertical up about 1", headlamp loop hit fender denting the area above the headlamp, bent the bottom center deflector plate on the bumper a bit, as well as the left lower extension plate under the bar, broke mounting tabs on left headlamp (not the lens) and, oddly, the washer fluid reservoir cracked. There is no other "apparent" damage. The reasons, I believe, that the washer fluid reservoir cracked was: 1- I had just filled it before heading home, 2- Its 22 years old and 3- many, many hot/cold cycles. Anyway, stupidest animals on the face of God's green earth, I'm still driving it with a little duct tape to hold the headlamp in the fender.
This Doe was pretty big, an older gal for sure. Freaking idiot looked me right in the eye as I hit it, stupid thing had it looked a few seconds sooner, or better yet let the Buck that was trying to nail it do its thing... It came from the center divider across towards the lane (right) I was in, I saw it and was able to mover the steering wheel but not able to brake quick enough. The left bumper vertical hit it square on the shoulder, its head hit the lower center plate and its hip hit the left plate below the round bar. Then I think a hoof got tangled in the drag link until the left front wheel ran over the rear. There was a second or two where I heard it bounce under the cab/bed and then the right rear wheel ran it over. That was a violent few seconds. Thankfully I'm OK, the truck is "way better" than if I didn't have this bumper and thankful I wasn't driving the Prius or I'd probably be in the hospital, or worse.
Insurance adjuster arrived at the shop I chose to do my repairs, to final inspect a 2021 Corvette that hit a dear before the customer came to get it. I was surprised that a new Corvette could survive a deer hit and be repairable, the thing looked like it just rolled off the floor. Anyway, as I'm talking to the shop owner and we're looking at my truck, the adjuster pulls in and the shop owner says "imagine that an adjuster from your insurance company just pulled in". So the adjuster took all the info and looked up my claim number, made some notes, took some pictures and the shop owner should have the estimate later today or tomorrow.
Bumper, headlamp (2), reservoir are being replaced with new, fender will be repaired and painted. Since the incident was an animal and no other vehicles, no passengers involved my insurance company used my comprehensive ($100 deductible) versus collision ($500).
Will be selling the very slightly damaged bumper after repairs are completed, shop owner has an 02 Cummins and has "always" wanted to get a bumper like mine and is interested - what do you think I can get for my damaged $1,400.00 bumper.
