I am considering a Frontier Bumper or a Ranch Hand, i've heard alot of good things about both but the one thing that interest me was the weight of each and the effect on the wear of the tires or compressing of the springs or shocks. Cann anyone tell about it?

I have heard good things about them... plus you can order them unfinished and have them powdercoated/painted/rhino lined for your taste. They also seem to be reasonably priced for the options.

I have run ranch hands over the years on other rams. I am not sure I buy the pre-mature front end wear story as I seemed to get 100k out of the front end on my '01 before I had to start replacing parts. I was beating on it really good too. Multiple trips per week up and down Old Mines Road outside of Laredo. It is a real bone crusher of a road, and I am sure the grit from the mud (when it used to rain) added to the wear factor. The ranch hands and other brands seem to have lightened up over the past few years. I know the '01 Ranch Hand was considerably lighter than the one on my '96. As for tire wear, I found that the brand of tires had more to do with wear then the weight on the front end... . that is when I began to swear by Michellins. Got 65k out of the last set I ran on my '01. Toyos, BFGs, etc all seemed to last between 35 and 45 k.

One other note about the body guard bumpers... . I confirmed with the manufacturer a few weeks ago that the 2" receiver will support a winch mount if you choose to go that route. (Instead of the traditional winch in the bumper (they do offer that option as well). The 2" receiver option allows you to relocate the winch to the rear receiver to winch yourself out backwards... . I seem to need to winch from the rear more than the front! This also allows you to take the winch off when you don't need it and store it under cover.
