I looked for older posts and see the issue could be the sending unit in the tank. The fuel gauge is not working properly. very inconsistant and now say's im empty, and I'm not! I know the sending unit in the tank is a huge issue for these trucks. But what throws me is that I tried the gauge test, it doesnt work. Ive done it before , its been awhile, and now it doesnt do it. is this a symptom of the dash cluster going out? Also my "wait to start" light stopped working about a few weeks ago, but the engine starts. before I pull the tank, what do yo all think?

tank pull

Sounds like you might have to pull the tank and check the float arm as it may be stuck or might have corroded and fallen off. Just my opinion. Maybe others will chime in.

I would lift the bed off. Much easier working on it that way.
Look at alignment marks before you remove the fuel module. They will have to line up again when you reinstall.

Kf6cmp, truck will start with or with out "wait to start" light on. (unless it is really really cold outside).

Is your voltmeter going down to 10 to 12 volts? Is your 'water in fuel" light working? Light bulb mite of burnt out.

There are fixes you can do to fuel sending unit.

Fuel in water light works. I got the gauge cluster diagnostic to run. The wait to start light never lit up and all else works, including the fuel gauge. There were no errors given. So I'm thinking the problem is the sending unit in the tank and i have a burnt light on the wait to start light.
