I have just started haveing a big issue with my fuel level gauge. Twice today my gauge showed empty when i had approx 1/4 tank left. Sometimes i could restart the engine and the gauge would restart correctly. Once i filled it up it seemed to work fine but i jumped in it again tonight and had about a 1/4 tank again and the gauge was dead. This is happened once befor about three months ago but has not done it for quite some time.

Any suggestions would be appriciated.

Most likely it's the sender in the tank that has worn. If you STF, you should find a thread or two about repairing the sender.

Mine's been acting that way for at least 6 years/150K miles. I ignore it, since I know how many miles I can travel on a tank of fuel. But someday I'll pull it and rebuild it.

I had the same problem, took 5k miles to fail completly. It started as a wiper loosing the middle 1/2 tank, happened about onence every other month. but when I finally removed the unit, it ended up a bad float - tolally missing. installed a new mopar unit for around $50.

Mine's doing the same. I plan to remove the truckbed to do some other work come spring , so I was just going to try to keep my tank full and an eye on the odometer until then when it should be easier to access. I hate dropping and reinstalling fuel tanks...

I had the same problem and it ended up being the float had broken in two and fell off the wire. A new sending unit was ~$92.
