Fuel level sender 98 12V

If it looks like mine above, I'd consider replacing the entire thing!
I thought mine was just the sending unit as well........not so much!

I’m telling you, you need to get new gears. Don’t do it halfway.

Well I want to inspect first. A Dana 80 R&P is over $1000 used sets are $500. Could get some non Dana brand for less. Axles are $300 each if needed due to spline wear, pretty soon parts and labor is going to top $5k, that would be nice to have 100% new EXCEPT the housing, but until it is torn down I don't know what it needs nor if it needs everything.

I am currently at 320k, about 100k since I last put bearings in the rear axle. Amazingly still on original VP44.

Correct. It's for the '96-'97 which is what SRath has.

Yes, the '97 version does not fit directly on the '98. But it can be made to work, especially if metal parts on the '98's 'cap' are rusted out/through and you have no choice. You have to re-use the '98's ceramic level sensor sweeper 'plate' to retain the right resistance range. If your fuel gauge is erratic, you should put a gentle '^' (no sharp bends; use a .5-1mm bend radius) in the sensor contact arm to move the little contact point to a new section of the resistor. You have to reuse the '98's 'cap', swapping some things from the new '97 cap to the old '98 cap because the external connections changed between '97 and '98. Requires time, patience, and determination.
