I get 15 - 18 mpg driving @ 70. She has 7K now is this normal? Seems the salesman indicated it would be better. Done a little towing with a 2. 5 ton trailer.

Stick yourself a VA or EZ box on that HO and your mileage will probably increase 1. 5 to 2 mpg. Your mileage isn't bad and it will get better. Something else you may try, is keep track by diesel fuel brand in your area which one gives you the best mileage. With BP and Citgo here, I get about 1. 5/2 mpg less than with Phillips 66. This has been discussed quite a few times over the past year and I am a firm believer that fuel quality varies greatly from station to station. The trick is to find the good fuel stops. I filled up at an Amoco in Richmond Hill, GA (TA Truckstop, high volume) last Thursday and got back on 95 and watched my computer start going backwards from 21. 0 to 20. 0 by the time I got home (208 miles). I was bucking a headwind coming north out of Melbourne all the way to Richmond Hill. The terrain was constant, the wind fairly constant, speed constant (72) and the load constant (empty) for the entire trip. I went from Phillips 66 to Amoco and that was the main difference. I didn't fuel when I got home so I didn't have a chance to calculate the exact mpg. I believe it was the fuel that made the difference.

I see a 4+ mpg drop from 65 to 70. I get 21 at 65 so I just get in the right lane and relax. I also saw a 2mpg gain after 700miles with 10k in tow.

More mph=less mpg
The sweet spot for my truck (after 14k mi)is 2000rpm at highway speeds=62mph. Getting approx 18+mpg. Faster than that I see a marked reduction in mpg.

I see about the same as SandDemon. As I go up to 70 from 65 with 3. 54 I go from 21. 5 to about 20 or so. 3000mi, getting ready for the Big Tow in a week or 2. Good to hear my findings are typical.

I tow a 14,000 lb. 5er and with the recent modifications, I get 13 mpg towing at 65 mph. Without a load, I get 19 to 20 all around mpg. Significant increase from towing before and getting 9 mpg and 15 mpg all around. These adjustments not only have significant mileage improvement but they allowed me to maintain a constant speed on long 6 per cent grades without ill effects. It is like driving a normal vehicle without a load impact at all.

Ed,
since you have before and after fuel mileage numbers I will ask you this question.

Are you calculating the numbers by hand or useing your trip computer.

Are you fueling up at the same pump and same setting on pump.

Are you going over the same terrain.

Are you going the same speed over the same terrain.

I know there are alot of questions but to get the right numbers everything has to be as close to constant as possible.

Even 2 tenths of a gallon can be a . 5 mile per gallon increase.

The reason I ask is I tried one of the timeing boxes and seen no increase in fuel mileage even though my trip computer recorded a 3 MPG increase.

I sent the timeing box back for a refund. No reason to spend $528. 00 if I could not increase my fuel mileage. Did have more power though but I was after fuel mileage.

I have a 2001 2500 Auto with 2500 miles on it and I drive at 70 and I'm getting 19. Just got back from a trip towing a 4,000 trailer and got 16+. My truck is totally stock.

Your numbers are right in the Ball Park compared to mine. I did notice about 1mpg increase when I went to a Diesel Fuel Conditioner, Lubrication Engineers DCI+. The biggest difference I see is when I do alot City Driving. Is your a 2500 or 3500?

Put me down with those that did NOT see a big jump with a timing box on the HO. (VA, HO model). I suspect that older model VA's did better and that the newer models can't tweak the timing as much and still meet the CAB air quality standards. EZ may or may not be better, but you could always take advantage of their money-back policy if not pleased. Overall, I still like the VA, I was just hoping for more mpg improvement based on the "1 to 3" mpg reported by others.

HC, I think you are right on the older VA boxes doing better on the mileage. The old CPC with the ribbed sides is the best. The two that I KNOW are running in HOs are both doing 1. 5 to 2 mpg better. That is calculated mileage, same terrain, fuel, pumps, the works. I know on the pumps because I fuel at the station that only has one for cars so I always use the same one. I fill till its at the bottom of the vent hole. The only person I know that got the VA for the HO didn't get the improvement he was looking for in mileage or performance. He can slip a CPC on and see an immediate increase in performance.

I gained 1. 5 mpg towing with the EZ running in the #2 position- no gain at all in the factory set #3 position.

Got a signifigant increase towing (+3. 5mpg) at 65 mph vs. the posted 75mph. Problem was- trying not to get run over by semi's #ad

I get 20 mpg in summer, 19 in winter (honest!). 70% freeway, no tow. Secret: Short shift like crazy. The quicker you get to 6th the better.

So far I seem to be getting about the same mileage with my EZ Box when I run unloaded. Based upon the computer, #ad
I saw an increase while towing, however I did not fill up after reaching my destination, so I can't give exact figures. I didn't get the EZ for fuel mileage, but that would be a nice little extra should I see a significant improvement. I run the EZ on setting 3, but I think I will try setting 2.
