I ordered the FASS fuel pump and a westech fuel pressure gauge from Geno's garage to solve the lift pump/injection pump failure problem for good.
I decided to put the gauge in first and see what the fuel pressure was before I put the new pump in.
At start up the gauge reads about 6 lbs. As soon as I put it in drive and touch the pedal it drops fast. If I go up hill or try to accelerate quickly it goes to zero fast, sometimes dips a little below zero. This means the injection pump is creating suction at the gauge sending unit.
This really clearly shows the problem, and the need for a gauge and a stronger pump.
Incidentally, the gauge and pump set up is very well made, and easy to install. I highly recommend this system.
