So what's the outcome on these newer sender units, I've been living with the Ding Ding crap for ten years now, I can't take it anymore.
 
The VDO fuel sender has not failed me yet in over a year and 10,000+ miles. Ditto for the other modifications mentioned previously in this post. Only portions of OEM tank unit used were lock nut, rollover valve and auxiliary capped fitting. Metal slides used to mount module were retained to attach S. S. canister mentioned previously. Sorry to report I did not take any pictures. After having the fuel tank up and down 9 or 10 times in 6 months, I was in no mood for picture-taking. The VDO #226 001 is off the N. O. S. box and sender sitting on a shelf in my shop. Do not know if it is current. I do use my Centroid unit, but it is used to store large hose clamps... did not let it go to waste
