I just ordered a full piller triple gauge pod from geno's. Does anyone know how to remove the original a piller and install the replacement? I would "asume" (there's that word again) that it will come with instructions but who knows. i was looking over mine today and i couldn't see an ovious way to remove it. Any ideas short of a big hammer and 6 ft. crowbar? LOL.

Work the tips of your fingers under the center inboard edge of the cover. Pull. To fully remove the cover you will need to unhook the connector for the tweeter (if equipped) and pull the cover up and to the rear. Works on my model year 2000. I've had both sides out twice so far.

To help route the wires to the gauges I removed the dash board face (pull it off, its only snapped on) and removed the headlight switch. this opens up a real easy access to the pillar base. also you can tap into the dash light circuit here to light your gauges. on my 2001 it was the tan wire at one corner of the connector block. have fun

George, as I'm typing this, Rob Hanson and Big Bob are outside massaging Bob's 3-gauge A-pillar from Geno's Garage so that they can install it over the stock A-pillar piece. In other words, the 3-gauge pod does not replace the stock piece. You install it over the stock piece. You have to fabricate some holes to run your wiring through the original piece, and if you have the tweeter then you must shave off the raised portion for the tweeter hole, before stacking and attaching the new piece over the stock one using rivets, screws, glue, double-sided tape, or whatever #ad

A true A-pillar Triple Gauge replacement was in the works at least a year ago but never materialized.

The original tweeter mount is a problem... a sawzall and a jig saw solved it for us! There is also about 4 inches or so that does not conform to the shape of the new 3 gauge mount, so we used a propane torch to heat it up and then "molded" it with a pair of pliers and our fingers.
It fits well, now!

Rob,could you go into a little more detail on what you're using the Sawzall and jigsaw for? Are you carving on the gauge mount or the stock pillar?

Mag--according to the archives and my test fitting--you have to cut away part of the tweeter bump on the original A pillar to make your replacement A pillar w/ guages work--I'm going to pull mine off and see if I can't figure a way to mount the thing--thus saving the original--but if it comes to hacking a hacking I will go---chris

Wow, that kida sucks. I ordered the full pillar thinking I could remove the stock one and save it for the day that I sold this truck. I would then remove all my gauges and use them on the next truck. I guess if worse comes to worse i'll just have to buy another a pillar cover at that time.
Thanks for all the input guys.

Chris, with my Isspro gauges i had to enlarge the holes slightly with a big round file. I'm going with a friction fit.

John B how did you mount the tweeter to the gauge mount?

Mag... we used the old pillar in behind the new one, and the tweeter stuck out too far to make a good fit. We used the sawzall to cut off the hump of the tweeter, then heated up the edge with a propane torch, and used our fingers to shape it correctly. It was then a nice, tight fit.
I am sure there are other ways... the one where you don't use the old pillar sounds excellent.

I installed a 2 guage w/tweeter replacement from Geno's and did not use the original under it, I would think you could do the same with a 3 mount. Geno's included their instructions with the mount. The rubber trim on the door side held the left side and one screw in the center sucked up into position. I also used a piece of black door edge trim on the edge next to the windshield to keep it from vibrating.

John B--thanks--I just came in after I removed my A pillar and was thinking exactly what you've done would work--now I know it can-I actually came in to look at some pics of how the meters install--did you use the brackets to hold them into place or do they just friction fit?? thanks---chris

I got Geno's three gauge pillar. In the box from Gino' was some great advice on installing it. Remove the stock pillar and with some creative work you can install the new unit without destroying the stock unit. I used one self tapping machine screw between the top and middle gauges to secure the pillar. With the stock unit out of the way I had plenty of room to dress the wiring.

I picked up my 3 guage w/ tweeter from Banks, and it replaced the factory piece... under the w/strip on one side, double faced tape on windshield side... and the visor misses the top guage by 1 in. , on it's way to the windshield.

How are you guys that are not using the stock pillar attaching the tweeter to the replacement? Does the tweeter stay in the stock pillar and just stick through the replacement if you leave the stock pillar on? Can you remove the tweeter from the stock pillar and install it in the gauge pillar? I'm soooo confused.

wrward, what was the installation advice you got from Geno's?

..... another solution: I purchased a non-tweeter A-pillar from Dodge for about $32. Add the double or triple (with tweeter) Gauge Works A-pillar cover with your choice of gauges and you are done (more or less)... no butchering of the OE (SLT) A-pillar to remove the tweeter tumor. In addition, you can remove the gauges and replace the OE A-pillar (with tweeter) prior to selling your Ram. BTW, I was told by my Dodge dealer that a new A-pillar with tweeter runs about $160. #ad
