Last week I did a favor for my local dealer, Bolles CDJ in Union, CT by picking up a 2005 CTD 4x4 SLT LWB in North Adams, MA. The truck was equiped with the G56 transmission. The trip was about 110 miles each way. The truck had 88 miles on it when I picked it up. I did not realize the truck had the new six shooter in it until I tried in vain to put it into reverse and discovered that it had been moved to a better place, all the way over on the left and down. This is a very big improvement over the shift pattern on my NV5600, imo.

I drove the truck back from North Adams to Greenfield, MA over Route 2 (the Mohawk Trail) and I had many chances to shift this baby and I will say that I felt this was the best shifting vehicle I have ever driven and that is saying a lot because I have a NV5600 with the short shifter that I am more than satisfied with. The G56 right out of the box shifts very easily and smooooothly and the throw between gears is just right and the pattern felt very natural.

I do not know about the aluminum case or how it handles torque, but this truck was a hoot to drive. I would like to try it pulling my 15K trailer. If the durability proves out well, I would get this transmission in a heartbeat.

Glad to hear some good reviews. Mine is scheduled to arrive on 4/8 so I can add some info for those who need it. :)

Ordered mine 12/27/04

built on 2/14/05

sch. delivery 3/11/05

3/18/05

3/21/05

3/25/05

and the latest 3/27/05

From what Tomygun says, the G-56 sounds like it's a limited edition since it's not available now.

It could be available only in a limited edition because the truck I drove was a "Thunder Road" configuration. I could be mistaken, but I believe that truck in only available in the 2500 size if you get it on a CTD. It sure was a sweet truck, but I would do an even swap for my "Great Silver Beast".

Yes, good to hear a good report, Now if we could get a choice of a rear axle ratio to compinsate for the g56 gear in hi I would pleased. AND not to hear any bad reports of blown boxes in the next year would be nice too.

dhill:

Mine is very similar

ordered 1/3/05

built 2/16/05

scheduled for delivery the second week of March, then the third, then the last week and now 4\8... . we'll see I guess.

I wonder why it would be in limited production... . or materials hold as I think I read somewhere else? and why would ours be delayed in shipping if it has already been built?

My truck also is on order. I ordered on 2/19/05. I received a email from my dealer today telling me my truck is scheduled to be shipped in 7 to 10 days. I was concerned about the hold up with the G56, but I guess they had enough to get all the orders through until recently. At least I hope.

Ordered mine on 1/26/05. It went D1 after about 3 weeks and was delivered to the rail yard (Saltillo Mexico) on 2/25/05. Was scheduled for shipping on 2/28/05. Still waiting, but dealer says it is supposed to be at the local rail yard on 3/27/05. I don't know if that's a firm date or just the latest dealer guess... :rolleyes: Can't get the dealer to give me the railcar number, or the actual build/shipping code so I'm at their mercy... :{

I don't know when the cutoff date is for ordering an '05, but it must be getting pretty close. Those of us that have our trucks coming might have a rare truck. That might not be a good thing if the reason they are not installing the G-56 in trucks, is they are having problems. On the other hand, if it is a good trans, like WE hope it is, then the guys that wanted to wait and see will have to wait for an '06.

Oh yea, my truck has been riding on a rail car since the 11th of March when it left Lardo Tx. I've been tracking it. I really don't know how the railroad makes any money. I'm paying $850 to have my truck shipped. Right now that's about $47 a day

uprr really sux

Dave... Did you order something out of the ordinary? Seems like it took an extra long time to build.

Mine didn't have the "u-connect, sport package, SRW, and window defrost. " I wonder if any of those held it up, or maybe they just took a late x-mas break. :D Some of the paint colors have been in short supply. What color did you order?

I would have liked the window defrost, but because of the "Big Horn package" selection, you had to take the slider. :(

There is a big difference between "scheduled to be shipped" and actual shipping and arrival. My dealer said that it can take over 30 days, sometimes, just to get it shipped. I guess they just sit around the rail yard until they round up enough to make up a train. Then they have to clear customs, be reloaded at Laredo, and then get into the US rail system. . :(

Yup I know, just trying to hope for the best and expect the worst type of thing. I figure I have waited this long I can wait another 6 weeks. I didn't say I would like it :{ but I can deal with it.

I just hope it shows up before it wrecks too much of spring camping. We usually start in early April so we've already cancelled a trip or two. :(

In their ads they only show red or black, since we didn't want black our only choice was red. Besides I think in Clatsop Co. Oregon it's a law that it has to be red, I know for sure on our 2-1/2 acres that's the law.

I ordered a 2005 with the big horn package and swapped out the slider for rear defrost for $70.

Chris... If I'd have known that it was that easy I'd have done the same. Salesman made it sound like it would be more expensive then that to have them delete the slider, then order the one piece with defrost. Guess I'll know better next time... :)
