Per Standard Transmission's recommendations,I overfilled mine by 1 qt by elevating the drivers side a bit. 7 qts. total.

i think it is 7 quarts, 6 to fill and 1 quart over. it is very important to overfill. the front bearing does not get enough oil for cooling with just full. also penzoil syncromesh is recomended over the atf4+

Amsoil ATF +4 exceeds the mfgs specifications for the G56. Pennzoil Syncromesh does not meet the requirements for the G56. Its for the earlier 5-spd transmissions.

Did you read the article in this publication concerning Standard Transmission's observations of G-56's with lubrication starvation using ATF+4?.

Lot of unknowns there,I admit. Were the transmission's regularly serviced/overfilled by a qt. (which they also recommend)? Were they towing more than were spec'd at?

Prior to this I was running Amsoil Universal ATF. I only had a fine metal dust on the plug. We'll see in another 20K how the plug looks with the Pennsoil.

DId a search of the last 2 indexes and found no article. Maybe you can point me to the article?

Thanks in advance!

I gave the Amsoil atf a try when I did the first fluid change I found the fluid to be thin and the transmission would not shift into gear right, as if the Syncro's did not mesh right. switched back to Mopar +4 prob went away. After reading the article in TDR I've since switched to Pensoil Syncromesh the gear is very much quieter, not that it was noisy before, now... ... . The guys at Standard transmission know there stuff follow their reconodations and live long and happy

we run a lot of g56's in our fleet read issue 68 as regcabguy sugested. get rid of the dmf and install a southbend conofe kit. it has a real pilot bearing in it. we also add trans-cools to the g56 and insulation on the exhaust by the g56 and on the truck in my sig i insulated the manifold to the resonator. one of our 06's was shipped from the factory with low oil. i just had another dmf fail and decided to replace it with sb and decided to just change two more before they failed. when we removed the g56 with the low oil ( it only had 10,000 miles on it ) the oil was burnt. we also noted what he said about the pilot bearing. every one of the g56's had a weep on the front seal and had to be replaced. the sb has a ball bearing pilot bearing in a solid flywheel
