Ok, i just ordered a Mag Hytec for my rear end (Affectionatley known as the "J Lo" package). Anyhow, i went and bought 8 quarts of Valvoline 75W-90 synthetic gear oil.

Is this what i want to use? I never tow or haul, i have a 2500 Automatic. Will this gear oil be ok for my application? Its what i always use in my rears. Also, i have the limeted Slip Differential, do i need to add friction modifier?, or am i OK since its Synthetic gear oil?

Suggestions?

Valvoline is OK

EMD,

That lube should work fine, I have used it for years. Try to run it without the additive and see what happens. I would get some clutch chatter on 90 degree turns from a stop without the additive. I added two ounces at a time until the chatter went away. Do the figure eight thing in a parking lot to run the additive/lube thru the clutch packs. Think I ended up adding around 4 ounces. Too much additive and your limited slip becomes an unlimited slip.

EMD... you might want to try a "search". I did out of curiousity and found two pages of threads on this subject in the last six months. :D :D

That oil will be fine... Unless you tow a lot, or just plain want to, Amsoil is a good, but expensive alternative. I have it in mine, but only because I got a good deal on it.

I put 9 quarts in my Dana 80 with MH cover. I figured a little bit more oil would help to keep the axle seals and pinion seals moist. :D

I am not familiar with the Mag Hytecs fill setup. I know with the stock rear ends you fill them till it is all the way to the top of the fill hole. Same with the Mag Hytec?

To fill the diff with the MH cover, you fill it through the dipstick hole, until it is between the two lines. Mine is above the top mark. :D Be sure to buy some LSD additive, if it apllies to your truck. I added 2 bottles to mine, and all works great! :D
