Ordered the steering box a week ago, it is back ordered, can't wait for it to get here, the wife can, she hates it when I crawl under the truck and make it last all day.
I already have the BD Steering Box Stabilizer, had no idea when I ordered it what a simple yet great piece of equipment it is, the pics on Geno's don't do it justice. I also put the shaft on several years back. SOOOOO, if everyone else hadn't bought up all the boxes I'd be writing about how it works instead of how I'm waiting for it.

Well now that the weekend is over. We got the new ball joints installed. Paid someone to do it, Moog parts, just under $800 including tax. Got his FASS-2 installed in the OEM location. Works great. 17lbs. at idle... 70mph WOT 13lbs. and steady. 13lbs was the original pressure at idle on the OEM Carter and it was the original pump (137K on his truck). And we knocked off the muffler off... . sweet sound with the muffler off.

I went to my local Napa last week checking on a gearbox. The box is $190, but get this, the core is $230! I said this doesnt make much sense, but they said that they have sold more dodge gearboxes than chevy and ford combined. This should have been a recall, along with handfuls of other things on these trucks. Its a lifetime warranty from Napa, so even if I have to put one in every 100,000 miles, I'll still be ahead of the game. My loyalty to dodge has really gone down hill.

I'm on my 3rd Napa box now and I had one AGR in right after the stock box. None have failed but the play has steadily increased on all the boxes. I'm running a 4. 5" lift and 37" tires. I'm updating everything at one time now, I've always tried replacing a piece at a time. I added the BD steering stabilizer and all new bushings on the lift and hoping it is the last time. I actually take the truck on some rough roads and cracked the frame at one time right where the gear box attaches, I think I was on my second after market box at the time. Wish I knew about the BD steering stabilizer back then, it probably would have handled it.

Hello

What I find interesting is that most will spend 400 on a tuner box or a turbo or a stacking t boxes or the big lift kit, and big tires that costs thousands!! but to cure the death wobble or the endless chasing of the steering wheel we whine about 400 dollars plus the cost of a new borgensen shaft, HMMM I have a borgensen shaft and I will now look into the borgensen Box as well, and before I get the Big turbo or injectors I will do what ever rear brake up grade it takes to help my poor pitiful back brakes stop the truck and my fiver. had the borgensen box been out when I replaced my last one I would have installed the borgensen box. . Just my 2 cents and I am sorry if i offended anyone

I hear you, I've had my truck for 10 years now, the early years I was uneducated on what I should be doing for the truck and more interested in the fun stuff.
Don't get me wrong, I love working on the truck but if you include the time I cracked the frame at the steering box I've had the things off 5 times now. If I could have bought the right stuff the first time I'd like to think I would have. I thought that is what I was doing when I bought the AGR steering box, ooops. Looks pretty, didn't last any longer than the rebuilt boxes form Napa.

I spoke with the geno's guy about my back ordered box and he asked if I already had the shaft.
he didn't say anything about the new box having a full round spline that needed to be ground off if you had a stock shaft.
He did say the stock shaft on my '01 wouldn't fit.
I just got the notice it shipped, I still have the old shaft, I'll compare it when I get the box.

We're talking about the Borgeson steering box, not just the shaft. Two different things entirely here. I'm still on the fence about the Borgeson box though...

Yes - correct! Sorry about that, my bad. Just to clarify, my reference was to the misinformation out there about installing a Borgeson shaft on to a stock steering box.

anyone know if this is a 3 turn box? or like the 4 turn box our trucks come with. PSG used to sell the quicker 3 turn box that many people raved about but I guess they ran out of part suppliers or something and no longer offer Our box :(

just saw this Couplers & Adapters maybe Instead of grinding the new box you can weld one of these on your old shaft that way worst comes to worst you had to buy a new shaft instead of eating the box if something happened.

Another great 3 turn steering box is from power steering services in MO. I have had one of their boxes for three years with NO trouble. Still very tight. His boxes are rebuilt in MO, and each one done right. His name is Chip and he is a great guy!! the website is http://www.powersteering.com/ Just shoot him an email for a price. Dont mean to highjack, but this is another option for steering box without having to go to a borg. steering shaft.

Ok put my new borgeson stuff on today. I love the box tite and steers more like a half ton chevy I can turn the wheel with my pinky now. But it will take some work to make the BD brace work if I decide I want to still run it as the sector shaft sticks down more by like 3/32"s so some sort of spacer is needed to move it way from the frame by that much to get the bearing off of the nut part, if you can picture that. Other than that happy except my steering still sucks, gona try drilling a new hole 3/16" forward for the top control arms for more caster angle and try and fudge the rear end a tad straighter.

Jeff,

Thank you for coming on board! It is always great to have a tech rep straight from the manufacturer join in to help out. :)

Jeff,

Could you tell me is this a 3 1/4 turn box and what is the valving (16:1)? Also why does Geno's site say you must use the Borgenson shaft and you say it doesn't have to be used. Shouldn't Geno's correct the info on their site to reflect what Borgeson is warrenting?

Thanks,

Dave
