I leave my 01 sport towing mirrors down when not towing as the spot works the same either way. On my 11 and now 15 they are up ALL the time as the spots are useless in the down position.

This is an interesting post. But I am confused. Which aftermarket mirrors are the "good mirrors" and which are the "bad mirrors"? I would like to know. I am using Cipa mirrors that seem to be discontinued, and are now subject to stock on hand. Geno's used to sell them back in the late 1990s. The mirror part manually slides out. The mirror part doesn't swing up and down. The arm assembly folds back on the door, which is OK on the left. But not so good on the right, because it smacks the sheet metal.

There were a lot of complaints about these vibrating when they were introduced. It turned out that they would not vibrate if installed exactly according to instructions. The installing nuts had to be tightened to exactly 18 inch-pounds. I did that, and there wasn't vibration.

What they look like, from Cipa's website:

I had a set of Cipa mirrors on my ‘99 and loved them! No blind spots or vibrations. I have tried, unsuccessfully, to find a set for my ‘00, but they have been discontinued. I even called Cipa in hopes of finding a set, but none available. The Dodge flip up mirrors are a disappointment after having the Cipa mirrors. I sure wish I’d removed them from my’99 before I sold it.

Nope, not a dually. But it seems to be a thing around here to have the mirrors flipped up. I guess that it helps show off the chrome shocks and suspension, and the tennis shoe tires on 22" rims on a 4x4 that gets detailed every week by the mobile service.

Don't get excited Dudes. If that is your bag, I can deal with it. I guess they are referred to as "Street Trucks"?

Mine has a very nice patina that has taken 21 years to achieve by polishing off road. LOL

Mine have the same patina

Cipa are no doubt a nice mirror but IMHO are GAWD AWFUL looking like Elephant ears.

They sure give a much better field of view and all you have to do is slide them out - no adjustment required.
I agree with both of you. I was thinking that they were sort of like Mickey Mouse ears, but elephant ears describe them nicely. I see quite a number of them around here, though.

After using them for years on my’99, I’d sure like to find a set of them again. Neither I, nor my pickup plan to enter any beauty contests…

Yep. I'm surprised Ram just doesn't copy Ford or GM mirrors.

I'm glad they don't as I don't like the way the Ford SD mirrors work. Rumor is that 23+ is getting that style mirror thou.

Anyone know anything about these? They are sliders and I hope don’t need to be readjusted when they go in and out.

Since the position between your head and the mirror changes a minor adjustment is probably needed from full in to full out.

That’s what I liked about the Cipa mirrors. All I had to do was slide them out. No readjustment needed. With the flip up mirrors, you also have a completely different view between up and down. I know a lot of people like them and that’s great. I guess I’ll just have to live with them.

My 18 has memory for up and down positions so it’s not a big deal, even my 05 that didn’t have memory mirrors wasn’t a big deal to move the.

I’ve had to adjust any mirror that slides or flips when moved. The ones that slide take less adjustment and you could probably get by without adjustments but the sight picture wouldn’t be optimal.
