Thanks to those who replied re my recent Getrag transmission woes. I went by the shop and looked at the transmission now that they've opened it up. It looks like the front input shapft pocket bearing (if that's the right term) failed and the race slipped a bit. 5th gear itself was fine (in the sense that the part was fine, and the 1, 2, 3, and 4th gears were fine. However, the input shaft gear (sorry if I don't have the right terms) seems to have been chipped slightly, and it made just a bit of marking on the countershaft gear, and they say whenever you replace a gear you also replace the gear it mates up with, so they will want to replace both of those, and the bearings.
So, I suppose this is one of those input shaft/bearing failures. The good news is that after I have sold my jeep (oops I would never do that, I mean sold an organ) and pay for this I can hope with a new clutch and transmission (and an already new injection pump) to drive the heck out of this for another 100 k or two. What the heck. Costs less than a new one, and I like it better than the new ones.
Thanks again for your advice folks, and thanks Mysteryman for the PM and info.
