Okay guys im about to do the second oil change on the 92 and i would like to know what type of fluid is recommended for the Getrag 5speed transmission? Is there a manual transmission fluid or something else...

Thanks

Fluid change

I use NV4500 the first change is expensive since it requires a transmission but after that the heavy pulling is a lot easier. :D

Hey RC...

What weight NV4500 are you using??? :-laf :-laf

On the real question... . I've been using 5-30 synthetic based on advice of this group.

I use Castrol Syntec also. When I bought the trans there was an intermittant synchro issue going into 4th... about 50-65% of the time you'd feel shock in your right hand. Castrol Syntec has basically made this a non-issue. :) I used 5 quarts and filled through the upper most PTO bolt rather than remove the shifter. Patience is required. Warming up the oil helps too.

Okay so Castrol Sentec, now is that a gear oil?, what weight? remember im used to 90w gear oil here on the farm so enlighten me on the Sentec. . Also would i use the same in the Transfer case?

Thanks Oo.

Getrag oil change

Sentec is a 10W-50 synthetic motor oil. You can get it in -30, -40 or -50. I used the -50 but some use either of the other 2.

Don't use it in the transfer case. It calls for automatic transmission fluid. I use Dexron II.

transmission: The owner's manual specifies 5w-30 motor oil for the transmission so I would choose something like Castrol Syntec 5w-30.

transfer case: The gear driven NP transfer cases call for gear oil. I think SAE 40 or SAE50 weight motor oil may also be approved, but I use the gear oil. The owners manual specifies 90w or 140w depending on temperatures. 140w is called for when temps are above 90F. I use the same stuff I use in the front and rear axles - 80w-140.

axles: I use 80w-140 and gaskets rather than RTV.

I had planned on going with the book on the transmission, will check on the Sentec. As for the transfer case, im thinking 90w gear oil should be fine, thats what i use in my axles on both the 92 and the 2000, as for the gasket is this something you just do to remove all the old fluid? i did notice on the backside of the T-case i do have some slight seepage from around that cover, but of course most of us know manual trannys and heavy stuff usually seeps a little bit, the gaskets for the T-case where does one aquire those at??

There are no gaskets for the transfer case - it has both drain and fill plugs.

I use gaskets rather than RTV for the axle covers .

I for the life of me last night was trying to figure out where a gasket might be on the T-case lol, i must have misread a post, yeah the axles do have them, when i had the back brakes checked and had that F**** up at that shop they put rtv on the right side axle, now as for the rearends i do use RTV and have had no problems at all.

Does Napa or are those axle(8hole)gaskets dealer only?

I find gaskets easier than RTV, but its just personal preference.

Any parts store should have them.

Fel Pro RDS6095-1 for both front and rear axles.

I really like the "tuff-cork" gaskets for the diffs. Put a film of Hylomar on them and they don't leak. Sometimes they even come off in one piece and I have reused them with no problems.
