Bill Gilbert is putting 450/980 or something like that to the wheels through his. It is more in HOW it is APPLIED than actual gross numbers. I know of guys who broke them with stock power (not knowing how to drive, or not caring), and others have driven them just fine with 3-4x the power output with no trouble. MMiller has grossed nearly twice the rated GCVWR of his rig and had to eventually rebuild it, but I'd say he is far from gentle with it, and I dont think anything actually broke; more just wore down.

after tearing mine down i was thinking it lookd like an exteremly well built transmission huge gears and such i just dont see how guys are killing em with stock power i have tore down and rebuilt quite a few trannys out of tractors and stuff and it has gear and shafts almost as large as any of them i have done and theny tend to las 30 years or more without biend toched. any way just kind of wondering the guy i bought this truck from had it all but 2 years of its seveenteen year old life and this is the second one he killed but this one was lack of oil and if was to bet thats what got the first one not hes real big on maintence!

Heat, lack of lubrication, and too much lugging are the main culprits in the demise of the G360. Drive it right and pay attention to maintenance and they lasted quite well. :)

How's the old sayin go? Some guys can tear up a 100lb anvil in a sandbox... . or something like that. My truck wouldn't last a block if any of the local kids drove it the way they do their big bad (800hp:rolleyes:)Dodge Cummins trucks.

:-laf :-laf Yup! :-laf :-laf

Ive heard about 100,000 to 130,000 miles with a load is a good life expectancy for the getrag I just bought one that come out of a ranch truck it pulled a gooseneck half the time it ran 168,000 till it got rebuilt.

My old 91 had 100K+ on it since its rebuild when I got it, then i put another 70K on it, with no ill effects during its life with me, and I abused it quite harshly. I know a guy in Poplar Bluf that had almost 600K when his went out. The 1990 I just sold had almost 400K on it when I rebuilt it. My genetic donor had <50K when his pooped out on him. The life vaires considerably according to use and maintenance.

251K on the one in my 93. The previous owner drove it all highway, didn't tow, and kept it stock and maintained. It's not making any noise, but I know I'll be in it here soon, just to see what it looks like, since it's nowhere near stock anymore.

well i was little worried from some of things id heard but i feel a lot better now it realy looks like a heavyt built transmission

Have you done a search of posts/threads on the Getrag? You may want to search TDR members mysteryman, MMiller and 1stgen4evr. Real Guru info from these folks.

It can handle 500/1100 plus. If you tow a lot and heavy you will probably be putting new bearings and pilot bushings in it every 80,000 miles.

If it's empty most the time, 150,000+?

If you drag race it, maybe one pass maybe 100+. I have seen guys with much less hp break the cases... . I have no idea how. A hard 3rd gear launch would surely do it. :-laf

Mine has been fine except it hates very quick 2nd to 3rd gear shifts... ... . always takes out the 3rd gear synchro. :D

My 91 was replaced at 200,000 and my 93 has 225,000 on it and still works great. Did I really say that? I sense a Getrag failure next week. :-laf :-laf My 93 was low on oil when I bought it. I filled it and have not had to add any again, which leaves me to wonder how long it took to get low.

Anyway, it works as it should and is quieter than the rebuilt one in my 91. It was a one family truck, pulled a roofing trailer most of the time. The 91 came to town broke, they were on vacation and puked the transmission pulling a horse trailer down the Interstate, it was dry too. Works for me, I am glad to have it. :) I very seldom pull anything, just love the sound, smoke, look and dependability. :-laf I wanted a first gen when they were new, just could not afford one. thats what killed mine was no oil#@$%! well its realy not dead im going to put new bearings and the input shaft that got fried and put it back together

well i told you all a lie the guy i bought the 92 from had the getrag changed out for a nv4500 five speed and it has the nut with set screws so i am kinda excited i know i can crank the horsepower up a ways with this set upOo.
