I got the Getrag out and apart and found that the cause of the play on the main shaft which was almost 1/8" was due primarily to the pocket bearing. the race on the pocket bearing was pitted and the bearing was very worn :p . This bearing looks very small for the amount of force which is placed upon it and there is only one small slit to allow oil in to lube it. All of the other bearings and synchros gears ect looked good in the transmission. I went ahead and replaced all the bearings and brass gear rings. The transmission now holds in the second when I take off and shifts better when hot. I want to tell everybody thanks for their advice and thanks to JLEONARD for the getrag rebuild manual.

I'm afraid to open mine now. Before it was only 5th gear that made noise, now after the new 14mm pump and a ton more torque, just about all 5 gears make noise. Used to be able to start in 2nd, now if I slip it to start in 2nd, it makes a groaning noise, so I'm back to starting in grandma :{ . Yeah I know, the longer I wait, the worse it's gonna get. I guess I should start asking what if any special tools are needed to work on this transmission. I don't know where to begin. Besides a transmission jack.

Here is a list of the types of tools needed to work the Getrag, this is to give you an idea of whats needed.
