I got the Getrag out and apart and found that the cause of the play on the main shaft which was almost 1/8" was due primarily to the pocket bearing. the race on the pocket bearing was pitted and the bearing was very worn
. This bearing looks very small for the amount of force which is placed upon it and there is only one small slit to allow oil in to lube it. All of the other bearings and synchros gears ect looked good in the transmission. I went ahead and replaced all the bearings and brass gear rings. The transmission now holds in the second when I take off and shifts better when hot. I want to tell everybody thanks for their advice and thanks to JLEONARD for the getrag rebuild manual.
