Guys

I'm in the process of collecting the parts for a rebuild. I noticed when I replaced my clutch that the previous owner welded a rod onto the gear selector stub to use as a shift lever. I'm trying to located a correct replacement gear shifter stub and lever. Any one have a trashed Getrag lying around that they would part out? or know of a source for these parts? I'll be contacting Standard Trans next week to check with them; but I wanted to check here first.

If you do and want to respond with a price please PM or email me.

Thanks!

shifter

There are at least two types of shifter. Does yours have (or did it have) threads at the top or was it attached to the upper stick with cross bolts? I think either would work if you get the complete shifter.

Thought I would try one last time for just the gearshift lever from the pivot ball out to the gearshift knob.

OFitzgerald & RWWinslow have re-buildable core trannys, but it wouldn't be right to ask them to break their units by removing just the lever, & if I bought one of their units I would have one expensive shifter.

I was hoping someone knew where a destroyed Getrag was that could be parted out and sold bit by bit.

*** Please someone must know where I could find just the shifter? *** :{

Thanks Guys & Gals! :) :D

Just wanted to update this, Excessive Force came through with a shift lever that was left behind from his Getrag conversion. I really appreciate him taking time to talk with me and digging it out & sending it to me! Once again the TDR rules!

Thanks Bert Oo. :D :)

shift lever part# update

There was a part # update for the shifter lever and stub... .

For the 93 model year the shifter was changed to the bolt on style.

This was done due to complaints about the shifter handle pointing too much toward the passengers side and that the handle was often unscrewing its self... .

The latest and last part #'s are 52107531 stub shaft and 52078199 long handle. .

price is 237. 00 list/ 165. 90 or less shop price and 82. 70 list/ 57. 89 shop price

To get shop price just tell them you work for Joe's auto repair or some other BS name.....

I myself get my parts at cost +5% threw a local dealer when I am only getting a small quanity ... ..... But I do not require any assistance from the counter guys and just add things to their daily order myself.

Some dealers will do cost + 10% if you ask them to correctly from time to time..... Say some thing like... "I'll give you cost +10 but not list or list less 25% on this order..... they often times would rather get some thing on a sale rather than no sale... . Try it. . it often works if you know how to talk and deal.

The part #'s above are the better system than the screw on. and it brings the shifter handle closer to the left... ... There is some inventory left at the national depo... . when its gone there will be no more made... . It called NS1 in chrysler lingo..... a term you guys will be getting well acquainted with in the future... ... ..... :-laf

Appreciated the info, I had wondered what the change in stye was for, may have to consider an upgrade. The one I received from Excessive Force is an improvement over the cobbled mess that was there, but if I could get it to move a little closer, I think it would help my shoulder out.

I just heated and bent my shifter "stub" to get the stick over by me. I can't have my ashtray more than 1/2 open in 1st gear, but I can still plug in a power point and I don't smoke so that's ok. Now my 5th gear is where my 1st used to be. Much better.

more on shifter

Yes I know what you mean ! I hated that straight stick ! You might want to also look at the post/picture that I put up for the shifter extention that I made a few of on the lathe... . I stand 6'4" and have the seat way back in my club cabs .

heating shifter stub

The shifter stub is heat treated. If you heat it ... it you will destroy the hardness of the steel... ... This could cause problems down the road

rebuilding the getrag 360

One last note on your rebuild... ... . there are 2 main things that cause these transmissions to fail... The first is that they leak oil out of the drain plug..... not fast but 1 drip a day... they then run out or low on oil and the rear mainshaft bearing fails... . The second is that the shim packs are not set properly !!!!!

Even getrags rebuild shop does it incorrectly :--) The proper pre load is . 006 for new bearings..... 000 for used... The 2 packs must be = to allow the tailshaft housing to hit squarely... . too tight of packs causes the race on the rear bearing to lock to the cone after the trans gets hot. The race then turns in the case and ruins the case. Often times causing the case to crack between the main and countershaft bores... ...

The g360 is actually better than the 4500 but only if it is set up properly and oil is kept in it... . The 4500's began life as a gas trans... . we put the g360 behind the diesels for a reason! But if you over load the truck with a 40,000 lb. trailer too many times or turn the power way up none of the transmissions will hold up very long... Good luck with your rebuild... ...

Mysteryman's extension idea not only looks great, but allows for a lot of flexibility in adjustment as well as making the shifter longer. If you have a regular cab as I do and don't need the extra length, you can carefully heat and bend the shifter (not the stub). I did this successfully to mine and have pics of it in my reader's rig gallery if you're interested. I moved the knob about two inches closer and it made a huge difference.
