getrag to nv4500 swap

My Getrag is getting weak, is there anyone out there who has swapped to the 4500?. How do you like it, how much did it cost and where did you get it. Thanks

I am also wanting to replace the Getrag in the W-350 with a NV4500 or NV5600. I know from drivetrain.com it costs about $2200 for a transmission, bellhousing, etc. to get a kit. This price doesn't include a clutch. Not 100% sure about the cost of the NV5600 job, but I am sure it will be more expensive. I am going to wait until the ol' Getrag goes BOOM before I worry about it too much.

Just completed installing a 5600 in my 89 4x4 and also one in my friends 92 4x2. If you are ambitious, this is a worthwhile project; if not we are willing to part with these transmissions and the other parts. It is a formidable job, however not impossible by any means. What ever you decide to do. Good Luck

I have to second KEENO. If you decide to go the NV4500HD route Dan is the man. Mine came from him and was an easy installation including a video to assist. Do a search and see all the problems others have had trying to save a buck.



You will see a big improvement in shifting and noise control. Good luck!

How is that transmission diffrent than any old transmission I pull out of the junkyard?

OFitz- Quad 4x4 sells brand spankin' new 4500's. To that, Dan has put in a fully splined main shaft to cure any fifth gear nut problem.



I too like KEENO and many others had Dan swap in a 4500. It shifts smooth as glass and makes the truck so much nicer to drive. I too highly recommend Quad 4x4.
