Nissan sd 22

ford f-450 problem

Does anyone know anything about these things? I work in the parts dept. at a chevy dealer and we have about 15 junk pumps sitting in our scrap area, I managed to get ahold of one and started taking it apart tonight. This is the first pump I ever got a chance to take apart (this is the only pickup pump that goes bad... ) Is there anything I should take notice of as I tear this thing apart? I am trying to figure out how it works while not DESTROYING it so I can try to put it back together.

Anyway

Thanks in advance

Will

PS - just for grins - this pump came off of a 62k mile 97 dually 4wd pickup, this is the THIRD pump from the truck (which now has its 4th plus second set of head gaskets)

Ahhh yes, the good old DS4 pump. Replaced dozens of them... Most of the time its not the pump that goes bad--its the injection driver module screwed to the side of it.

As for taking it apart, have fun! They are pretty easy to disassemble without destroying them! :D

I talked to one of our techs today and he said the things don't actually go bad. He said the pumps get microscopic pieces of metal in them and the computer "shorts" and refuses to function. Simply put he said if you can clean ALL of the metal out and check the end of the pump where the lines connect, then it is very possible to end up with a functional pump with a simple seal replacement. I wanna finish tearing this thing apart first, we'll see
