BOMB'd - I've forgot what the acronym means

Just watch the buyout of Chrysler will be paid for by the TAXPAYER!

Its kinda to early to tell whats going on. I dont know to much about large coporations economics but who knows what will come out of it. All I know is my dad is a big bowtie boy, hes been one since he was freakin born. He heard this on tv, now he wont shut up about it and keeps holding it over my head. :eek: :-{}

the problem is Diamler itself. They are in bad shape and Chysler itself would be the only viable sell option of their other components. Talks include out right purchase or merger. The Boeing corp bought North American division of Rockwell Corp/McDonnell Douglas for military and space contracts to bolster their up and down commercial business. Its gonna' get interesting

Yes, GM hasn't made many good moves in YEARS. They let the Corvette group cut the knees out from under any other comparable car (like the original design of the Fiero---mid-engine, V8). Chrysler has been really shakin' things up but can't quite make the money yet. That would suck if they get bought by GM.

Everyone keep your socks on, it will never happen. There is no love between Chrysler and GM. I trust that Daimler and Chrysler will work it out because they are too deep into their technology exchange.

Maybe they realize they need to buy Dodge to get the contract of a real diesel--CUMMINS!!!!

At most, they might merge some sub-assemblies, similar to the common use of Dana differentials as DC and Ford did in earlier models - hardly likely to see a GM built Dodge at any time.

Given the poor long term track record of the Dodge trannies, a merger that provided DC with the Allison, for instance, would be a GOOD thing!

There IS such a thing as a win/win situation! ;) :D

I saw in the news a fews days ago that GM is trying to sell their Allison Division.

GM and Isuzu parted ways (or so I read someplace), so where does that leave the DMax?

AAM axles in the 3rd generation are basically GM along with our steering boxes, at least in the 2nd generation, I wouldn't be so quick to say you wouldn't buy a GM Dodge, you already have sort of!

I hate to see it too, but that might be better than a Korean owner or Japanese owner??? OTOH, the Asian companies would acquire some vehicles lines they don't currently manufacture.

I can't see GM keeping two lines of similar vehicles, maybe a Cummins powered GM is in our future?

As the saying goes... "The devil's in the details. "

Question: How would Chrysler fit into GM's distribution system?

Answer: It won't. GM has too many hungry dealers, already.

Question: What will GM do with the Chrysler's North American assembly plants?

Answer: Add them to the huge pile of excess capacity that GM already has.

Question: What will GM do with the excess white- & blue-collar workers that it inherits from Chrysler?

Answer: This is a tough one. Lay them off (or give them early retirement incentives) and let the media give them a thorough whipping which will further erode popular opinion and confidence in domestic brands.

I'll be surprised if this GM + Chrysler marriage truly comes to pass. I think it is a smokescreen for what is really going on.

I'd guess that an alliance with Fiat, Renault/Nissan, a Korean, or Chinese auto company is more likely. These companies currently have minimal North American automotive presence and they would be receiving a lot of benefits from Chrysler's brands.

I saw an article that said the interest was from 2 Korean and 2 Chinese auto makers. It was on one of the major news network web pages.

Question: Why would Chrysler want to merge with GM, who are in far more financial trouble then they are?

Answer:

GM doesn't want chrysler but they would rather buy them than let another foreign company buy them. The foreign company would have immediate access to an established dealer network. GM would keep Minivans, Jeep, and perhaps some of the cars.

The rumor up north says Magna International had talks with DC. The already are a major parts supplier and have assembly facilities but lack the distribution network.

Wow, I'd love to see Belinda in a CTD :-laf

Here's wikipedia on Magna

Rumor adds that Frank Stronach met Buzz Hargrove and Ron Gettelfinger lately (union leaders in Canada & US) too.

Who knows?
