I'm thinking about replacing my SRW Dana 70 with a SRW Dana 80, same year. Will this be a direct fit or will changes have to be made. I'm pretty sure I remember reading that the driveline would have to be shortened. Anyone else do this, let me know what had to be changed.

Thanks,

Bill

Bill, I think the only problem you will run into is the pinion yoke. The auto you have will most likely have a smaller u-joint in it than the Dana 80. You can either try to find a new yoke, or do what I've done, and have your driveshaft modified, which is pretty expensive if you don't have parts laying around. If your U-joints are the same, then you're probably gonna find it's an easy swap if you got all the hardware with the axle.

I swapped my 01 D70 Drum axel to an 02 D80 disk and the only things I had to deal with was shorting the drive shaft, e-brake cables and I had to motify my u-bolts and spring plates to compensate for the larger diameter tube. Now I want to swap my 3. 55 for 4. 10

I did this on my QCSB. I had another driveshaft made, because nobody locally could modify my factory aluminum 1 piece driveshaft. It's a little smaller diameter, but it's steel instead of aluminum. The ebrake cable doesn't. On the brake line, I just removed the proportioning valve, then the brake lines met up perfect.
