A big thanks to TDR - it made me look a lot smarter than I really am
today at the dealership. :-laf I have had the electronics going out on
my VP44 for about 3,000 miles now, and it has finally gotten bad enough
(dead pedal episodes) that I decided to get it fixed (still under warranty)
When it first started at 50K, I talked to the service manager and diesel
mechanic, and they assured me it would be taken care of. Well, today
I decided it was time to get it done, and went to see them about getting
it scheduled. I checked on here before I went, and saw all that stuff
about the in-tank retrofit, so I wrote down all the part #'s and carried them
with me. They had not heard anything about it, but ran the part #'s
and with a little explanation from me (info off of here) they figured it
out. Looks like I'll be their first retrofit when the parts come in. They
will do this and the VP. The parts man asked me "Where did you hear
about this?" and I told him TDR. The supercede date on their computer
showed todays date, 7/28. They were amazed/baffled how I knew about
it before they did.
I am a little concerned about the low pressures I
am hearing reported from those who have already had this done, but it
is the only choice on their dime - he tried to order the old lift pump on
the block just to see what would happen, and it kicked the order back!
TDR saved me from dropping the truck off, thinking it would be fixed, and
then having to wait while they figured all this out on their own. I will post
again after it is done and give a critique of the experience - a good one
I hope!
